NBC Axes The Weather Channel's Environmental Unit

NBC Universal made the first of potentially several rounds of staffing cuts at The Weather Channel (TWC) on Wednesday, axing the entire staff of the "Forecast Earth" environmental program during the middle of NBC's "Green Week," as well as several on-camera meteorologists. The layoffs totaled about 10 percent of the workforce, and are among the first major changes made since NBC completed its purchase of the venerable weather network in September.

NBC Universal has itsz head up its corporate ass... like putting WWE Wrestling on the SciFi Channel and killing off shows there like Stargate SG-1 and Atlantis. Or killing The 4400 on USA with nothing to "tie up" the loose ends. But they sure love making really crappy made-for-T­V movies!

Instead of “Forecast Earth” maybe they could put on specials with cute kids touting clean coal or the benefits of West Virginia mountain top removal for strip mining or maybe a nature show of timber removal in the Amazon. The possibilit­ies are endless if you’re into slash and burn programmin­g.
