Washington Post:

NBC Universal made the first of potentially several rounds of staffing cuts at The Weather Channel (TWC) on Wednesday, axing the entire staff of the "Forecast Earth" environmental program during the middle of NBC's "Green Week," as well as several on-camera meteorologists. The layoffs totaled about 10 percent of the workforce, and are among the first major changes made since NBC completed its purchase of the venerable weather network in September.

From the article:

Forecast Earth was hosted by former CNN anchor Natalie Allen, with contributions from climate expert Heidi Cullen. It was the sole program on TWC that focused on global climate change, which raises the question of whether the station will still report on the subject.'

Perfect timing. Not only was this segment axed during NBC's "Green Week"--but now that the disinformation surrounding Global Warming perpetrated by the Bush administration is finally waning, the correct information is needed now more than ever.

Pro-Nuclear Celebrity Weather Channel, here we come.

Say it ain't so! Watching Dave was always a real treat. An "older" fellow and 2 women let go? Is this ageism and sexism? And maybe Dr Cullen? Is NBC afraid of experience and intelligence? I guess I will get my info from accuweather.com from now on.

Maybe Rachel Maddow could do a daily spot on the environment? Much bigger audience.
