Politico:

Media bias was more intense in the 2008 election than in any other national campaign in recent history, Time magazine's Mark Halperin said Friday at the Politico/USC conference on the 2008 election.

"It's the most disgusting failure of people in our business since the Iraq war," Halperin said at a panel of media analysts. "It was extreme bias, extreme pro-Obama coverage."

This is his opinion based on what ? Didn't some right leaning outfit do some research and debunk this before the election was held ?

Its like one has to criticize Mark Phelps for winning, just because one cannot say something good about the second place. Not sure if that's a good analogy, but you get my drift I hope.

THE MEDIA WAS BIAS? PRO-OBAMA? Ok, so how did we hear about Rev Wright, instead of Cindy's drug use? Why do so many people think Obama is an Arab/Muslim instead of McCain leaving his wife because she was crippled? Why did we hear more about Ayers than Palin's son's arrest for tampering the brakes on a school bus? Why did we hear Obama isn't a citizen that was born in the USA, and McCain was born in Panama NOT in the USA?? Yep, you're right. The media loves Obama.

Facts! Pesky, aren't they?

So, McCain runs a purely slash and burn campaign against Obama, has no new ideas to offer voters, panders to women, fails to gain votes, drives away voters, fails to attract attendees at his campaign events and coverage of the campaign is . . . negative? How about accurate?

Obama runs on the issues, offers ideas that people favor, picks someone competent for V.P., and does not engage in negative campaigning. He also attracts thousands of people to events both here and abroad, and energizes the public. And coverage of these positive events is . . . pandering? How about accurate?

And let's not even get into the media's coverage of Sarah Palin. Her hillbilly behavior, misusing the RNC's funds, her seccessionist husband, who stuck with her like glue (can you imagine what the media would have said if Bill shadowed Hillary like that?), and the very "odd" child-care arrangements.

Note to Halperin: Get over it. Your candidate lost. And he deserved to lose.

Halperin need to realize that the country was ready for change including the media. He or his magazine won't have anything to talk about if it wasn't for Obama. This man is so full of himself whenever he's on Morning Joe.

What a laughable premise. Media was so completely in the tank for mc. Of course, O got more coverage, critical and unfair as hell, while mc got a pass for everything, and fawning adulation to the point of nausea. Mark Halperin is a tool and a putz. I hope his book sells 10 copies and his career tanks. Oh, and he's a liar too, as we all know.

What media is Halperin talking about? The one that spent weeks dissecting the Wright controversy? That one that repeatedly questioned whether Obama was elite or arrogant, based on Republican talking points? The Matt Lauer who in the midst of the campaign told McCain in a "probing" interview how courageous he thought McCain was? The media that chased down Nash McCabe on the basis of a NY Time sstory so she could ask Obama during a debate why he doesn't wear a flag pin and if he loves his country? The media that smugly insisted during the week before the election that the Bradley effect would do Obama in despite a glaring lack of evidence that the national electorate in 2008 would vote like 1982 Los Angeles? The media that persistently engaged in false equivalencies like saying calling McCain erratic was the same as inciting mobs to call Obama a terrorist/? That media? Obama needed to overcome all this plus the Clinton machine to win.

Mr Halperin . For a guy who reportedly said (until you quickly yanked it back off of your blog) that the Dem ticket would be : OBAMA-LUGAR ! I would think that you would want to be a little more circumspect.
Two weeks on Rev Wright. ? basically nothing on Witch doctors, Alaska Independence Party One question on Hagee/Falwell/Etc. Very little on Palin's documented lies. No medical records demanded, no press conference demanded , Fox Infomercials exerpted .
Finally Mark, I deeply apologize for the indefensible attitude that some of us stubbornly maintain to the effect that we refuse to become enraged and offended when positive events and good news are not submerged in cynicism , negativity or 24 hour gloom and doom .

A proposal : strictly voluntary -- TV Talking-Head Term Limits . Well , how about it Mark ? I say we start with you !

What I find disgusting is that after seven years of cheer leading Bush, a right wing media guy is in a snit about positive coverage of Obama. What a joke! The Reverend Wright festival the media went on for months and to this very day certainly did not seem to me as being in the tank for Obama. This is the very reason I do not purchase national weekly news magazines they offer up only their biased views and have for years. I read newspapers print and online as well as blogs for my news sources. I have abandoned the Time, Newsweek, and US. News and World Report magazines after we went to war in Iraq.

What I want is for the news industry to focus on what is in it for ordinary Americans in these financial give aways. How will we make out? That for me is worthy of reporting instead of who is groping whom.
