Mr. Biden will be the first vice president to move into the residence without previously living in Washington, said Donald Ritchie, a Senate historian.

For the Bidens, the move will bring a drastic change in habit. Mr. Biden, 66, will abandon his long-cherished routine that cemented his reputation as "Amtrak Joe," an average guy who rushes to make the train home to spend time with his kids. Dr. Biden, 57, will almost certainly surrender her job at Delaware Technical and Community College.

Well they certainly have the "image" of the successful well off and well to do American couple don't they?

Oh wait I meant they are just average "folks" like the rest of us.

They EARNED everything they have.
If you have a problem with that, you have issues with your own failures and resentments towards those who worked hard and pursued their dreams and succeeded. Funny, that green-eyed beast really comes out in full force...

Joe Biden's net worth is the lowest in the Senate, even after 36 years.

I love this family. Hope the Bidens are happy in Washington with their granddaughters nearby. So glad Joe is our VPE.

Wow, Dr. Biden runs 5 miles every day?? This couple is such a fantastic role model for America's families, in more than one way!

Maybe Sarah Palin's With Hunter could help with that.

the v.p. house in my opinion is nicer than the white house. more secluded, located at the naval observatory. every v.p. lives there. hopefully they will fumigate after cheney leaves.

I like Joe & Jill Biden - they are real folks. It is so amazing that the democratic ticket is the one with such strong family ties - intense focus on their kids, and moms-in-law. No wonder the Republicans are running scared. Obama and Biden are not talking family values - they live them. How refreshing!

Absolutely. That's my kind of family values too.

With her education background and both her and Michelle's smarts, I would love to see those two tackle DC's school problems. Maybe I'm mistaken, but I don't recall as of recent any national politicians focusing on D.C.

Considering it is our nations capital, you would think it would be one of the safest, best educated cities in the country. It's the complete opposite. I really believe that if it was given some serious attention with a large scale focus, this town could get turned around.

It would be a great legacy to be reminded of; raising education standards and results of public schools in our capital to be the envy of the U.S.

Excellent idea Mike4Obama - Please submit your idea to Obama/Biden.

Jill and Michelle are both people who care about their local communities. Plus they are great friends. It could happen.

"Considering it is our nations capital, you would think it would be one of the safest, best educated cities in the country"

You'd think, if DC wasn't such a model of antebellum plantation economy -- big house in the middle surrounded by poor workers servicing the center. Those not servicing the center and set upon each other, and killing each other.

Sad really.

new lifestyle for the Bidens. ...

While thousands of other Americans prepare for their new lifestyles - LIVING IN THEIR CAR.

Because they purchased too much home for their pockets you mean?

You think that is why everyone is losing their homes? Really? Boy, are you living in a bubble.

Favorite    Flag as abusive Posted 10:11 AM on 11/24/2008

I think Obama and Biden care about that and will try to do something about it.

The living in the car tragedy was brought on by Rethug policies. Do you suggest that the VPOTUS should live in a car too?

I'd like a new home too. Not everyone is so lucky.

I think that the Biden's 'luck' has come more from many, many years of very hard work and dedication.

Don't undercut what they've accomplished as just mere 'luck'.

Lucky? This is the most hard working couple . Joe has endured great tragedy in his life. I doubt her would say he was lucky to lose his first wife and daughter in a car accident and have his two sons injured.
PINHEAD!!!!

Become an accomplished public servant and statesman whose main character trait is integrity... spend years devoted to your country... be picked as the V.P. and win the election. See, you too can be lucky and get a new house.
What is with the resentment and just-under-the-surface prejudice against anyone who does well through his/her own personal hard work? Bitter much?

It's not his. Comes with the job, goes with the job. Luck has very little to do with it.

I just love the Obamas and the Bidens. Both families get what us "working class folk" go through on a day-to-day basis. They are drama-free people who clearly love each other and their families. These folks don't talk a good game about family values, they actually live it.

It also helps that all four are educated people (Barack, Michelle, Joe are laywers and Jill has a PHD in education). They know the importance of education.

And lastly, I think it is ironic that Barack and Joe taught the constitution considerding we have just fought King George and his red coats who ruled without representation and subverted our constitution.

What a lovely couple, he stands for the average american. I hope they like their new home, and hopefully it will be fumigated before they move in, you know that a roach lived there the last 8 years!

I wondered where Joe's been. Wasn't he supposed to be by Obama's side in every important meeting?

Joe's in Chicago at the transition headquarters. He does participate in the meetings. Unlike Cheney, Joe knows that Barack is in charge.

I don't think Joe's been in the meetings in Chicago. I've not seen a thing about it. Do you have any proof?

No one mentioned Joe not knowing Obama is in charge. Why did you mention it? Do you know something the rest of us don't? Usually when someone starts defending against something not even said, there is a reason. I can't wait to find out what it is. This should be a very entertaining administration. LOL!

This article is exactly why I voted for the Obama/Biden team. They are real people doing real jobs that make a difference in their communities. They are real people who get the struggles of working families who are trying to cope with all the difficult issues we all face.

Plus, what message does it send when the Obama family brings Michelle's mother to live with them in the White House and help with the girlls just as the Bidens bring his Mom to continue living with them in DC? I interpret this as understanding the role of a family.

So what if the Obamas and the Bidens aren't part of the cocktail party circuit? Maybe that's why they'll actually get their jobs done!

I think it will be so good for the Obama girls to have granny there, since there will be only so many official functions that their mother can turn down. She takes her main job (mother) seriously and I so admire her for that.

Compare that to Sarah Palin, who dragged poor Trig around the campaign trial like a sack of potatoes when he should have been in bed. Bright lights, crowd noise... no place for a 4 month old, let alone a vulnerable one with Downs.

Re Jean Biden... if my mother was 91 I'd want to spend as much time with her as possible too. I love seeing the chemistry between them, its so sweet.

What I love about thhis team is that they are real people. VP elect Biden and his wife are just so warm and unassuming no-drama folks, and it's great that they are not known as the party crowd in Washington.

Suddenly it seems we have a government that will be serious and have a vision that goes beyond "what's in it for me?" The President-elect's careful deliberation on his appointees gives a feeling of assurance that there are great things in store for the country.
