I Like ItI Don’t Like It

This week country singer Tim McGraw hosted Saturday Night Live. In addition to sketches n James Bond, Thanksgiving, an adult-retainer, "Dateline" and a Bill Clinton impression during "Weekend Update," there is an obscenity-laden web-exclusive with Andy Samberg playing Obama's Chief of Staff Rahm Emanuel.

There was also an Arianna impression during Weekend Update.

Samberg as Emanuel, which did not air:

Bill Clinton on Weekend Update talking about Hillary as Secretary of State:

Kristen Wiig in a Clear-Rite Sketch:

The perverse pleasures of "Dateline":

Blizzard Man:

James Bond:

I can see why the rahm emanuel sketch went "unaired". Its not ofensive or insulting and its not funny.Andy Samberg isnt funny. He does everything in literal/dramatic fashion. No sense of irony, no comedic timing, no sense of the absurd or sardonic, he dosent seem to even "get" the writing himself. He is not a bad actor, im waiting for him to launch his post SNL career in a teen romance movie or something.

Actually, he had Emanuel down very good. The short, terse sentences, ending each phrase like it's the last thing he's going to say. Never raising his voice (until the profanity started), I thought it was dead on. I agree that Samberg can be a little grating, but when he's on, he's really funny.

One thing I noticed in the end credits of the show. Seth Meyers is the ONLY cast member with any writing credit. That's not only unbelievable, it's unacceptable. There's a direct link between great performers and great writing, and that goes back to these people's roots. They should not give up on the creative end of comedy. Maybe that's why the show's been down.

This show just isn't funny any longer. The sketches are painful to watch - I feel embarrassed for the 'comedians'. Very uncomfortable to sit through. Kristin Wiig seems to replay the same jittery character no matter the sketch.

Signed,

No longer watching

She does, and that character's played out and unfunny in the first place.

The new woman who played Arianna wasn't good either.

"jittery" a good description, I agree. She has no depth. Although, I will remain faithful to the show and hope in the next few weeks it improves. I did like Rahm and Clinton sketches and I know once the new administration takes over and depending on the cabinet, you know SNL will run with it.

The Rahm sketch was betterthan anything that aired. Clear-rite was boring. The turkey sketch looked like it could be funny, but went nowhere.

I turned it off as usual right after weekend update, having just watched one of the worst SNLs ever. somebody better go offer Tina Fey a wheelbarrow full of gold to come back. This show is dead in the water.

p.s. just have an all-Andy-Samberg show. his sketches and digital shorts are always funny. most of the time they are the only funny thing on the entire show.

LOL at Andy, whom I love, by the way. You know Rahm LOVES this, don't you? Every less-than-tall guy would eat this kind of ego stuff up.

And I liked the Arianna impression.

The turkey sketch was one of the worst things I have ever seen on SNL - and I've watched the show since 1975.

Can someone post the Detroit Car maker CEO skit that SNL started the show with I can't find it anywhere. Looks like they removed it from everywhere.

Darryl Hammond is one of my fav's and is the funniest cast member on SNL. Love his impressions.

The Samberg piece was amusing but lacked some reality. Emmanuel didn't try to bring down Lieberman, why would he? They are both pro-war with neo-con leanings. All in all the Samberg skit was too real to be too funny. He did bring down true progressive Howard Dean. He is a dangerous pro-war guy.

Last Saturday's SNL show was boring, topped off with a kid gloves impersonation of Huffington. This skit would have greatly helped the show. Why did they not air it as a video playback with the bleeps?

They should have spoofed the Palin turkey slaughter video, c'mon, how could they not??!!

DO IT NEXT WEEK!!

Speaking of Rahm Emanuel and comedy -- does anyone else think Rahm bears a striking resemblance to Buster Keaton?

Why was SNL afraid to air Rahm's skit? Gutless?

Where is the Detroit skit? It seems to have vanished.

Rahm's was the best, so why wasn't it included airtime...too real perhaps?

Why does Huffingtonpost allow geographical video access discrimination? Since 2005 I cannot remember being barred because I live outside of the U.S. What's happening?

It's not HuffPo, it's Hulu. That website does not allow access from outside the U.S. due to copyright concerns.

Yep, same reason the BBC Olympics videos were unavailable in the US.
