STUART, Fla. — A student at a Florida school has been arrested after authorities said he was "passing gas" and turning off his classmates' computers. According to a report released Friday by the Martin County Sheriff's Office, the 13-year-old boy "continually disrupted his classroom environment" by intentionally breaking wind. He then shut off some computers other students were using.

The Spectrum Junior-Senior High School was arrested Nov. 4.

A school resource officer placed the boy under arrest after he confessed about his behavior, according to the report. He was charged with disruption of school function and released to his mother.

The punishment must fit the crime! It's the gas chamber for this one with his cell mate Baba providing the gas!!! Or would that be considered cruel and unusual?

The teacher and school principal should be fired for calling the police on a farting child. How ridiculous and impotent can they be?

Calling the police over breaking wind and a child too. Only in America can we make ourselves look even more ridiculous by the minute.

The death penalty is too good for this juvenile offender... next, he'll throwing spit balls and making funny faced behind the teacher's back. Whatever happened to sending a disruptive kid to the principle's officer? As if the court's don't have enough problems to deal with... The school resource officer needs lobotomy.

I am so torn.

Most of the time I am appalled at the obvious abuse of power and authority exhibited when police step in to regulate simple teen misbehavior. (It brings to mind the boy who was arrested under suspicion of terrorism for writing a fiction story about zombies attacking a high school.)

Then again, I knew plenty of obnoxious little blowhards (pun intended) when I was in school, and nothing would have bought me greater joy then to see them carted off in the back of police cars, even if only for the afternoon.

One thing is certain, he won't be doing that again.

Why arrest the boy? Why not call an assembly and tell him to pass gas on stage for the amusement of all? I'll bet even money he's another Pétomane.

(Don't know who Pétomane was? Go ahead, Google it.)

he obviously doesn't mind passing gas in front of people...that would have backfired. So he gets on stage, farts, laughs, keeps farting and laughing, gets the crowd laughing at his brazen display of power over the school officials, and then what?

Now, how do you stop the whole assembly and the student from laughing at something that should have been dealt with differently?

People are cracking on the school officials..but were you there? Do you have any clue about this kids history? Do you know how many times he might have already been spoken to about rude behavior? Turning off computers is disruptive...and teachers are hard put to save face for the sake of those who are still under the influence of respect.

There are many students who break the normal rules of conduct and that make normal behavior management extremely difficult. Remember that kids are the reflection of their homes.

Um, dude....

They ARRESTED THE KID FOR FARTING.

No matter how disruptive he may or may not have been, they arrested him. ARRESTED.

Dention and a grounding should be sufficient. Last time I checked, farting is not illegal, and neither is "rude behavior."

So yeah, the school needs ridiculed for this severe of an over-reaction. This isn't a fascist state, and fear tactics coupled with arresting people for made-up charges isn't okay.
