GOP Rep. Goode Won't Concede Defeat

Charlottesville Daily Progress:

U.S. Rep. Virgil H. Goode Jr., R-Rocky Mount, will file for a recount in his race against Democrat Tom Perriello.

"Over the last few weeks, voters from across the 5th District have encouraged me to seek a recount of the election," Goode said in a statement Monday. "Tomorrow, I will file the appropriate legal papers to request a recount of this Election."

The Virginia State Board of Elections certified the results of the election Monday. According to official returns, Perriello defeated the six-term incumbent by a margin of 745 votes.

There's absolutely nothing wrong with requesting a recount, no matter who does it. Counting votes is the primary distinguishing feature of any democracy. Counting twice to be sure is well within 'reasonable' or even 'appropriate'.

Look at what Norm Coleman said. Something like "Franken's an a-hole if he makes the state pay for a recount" - even though the recount is mandatory. Now look at what Perriello said: "he will respect Goode’s decision on the recount." Republicans are such slime machines.
