Horatio

SNL alum Horatio Sanz has dropped about 100 lbs. New York Magazine saw him on the red carpet of the 8th Annual 24 Hour Plays on Broadway last week and asked him about his drastic change in appearance.

"I've been eating better," he admitted. "I've been trying to come up with a joke about how I've lost weight and I was going to say, 'I stopped putting nuts in my sundaes.'" Apparently, he's lost about 100 pounds. Roughly. "I never weighed myself when I was at my fattest, because I was scared I might die," he said. He's been working out, too.

Below is a photo of Sanz at the event and another of him back in November 2003

However he lost it through diet, exercise, surgery GOOD FOR HIM!!! I've been there and even weight loss surgery is no guarantee of long term results. I still struggle and always root for the person who decides to take action for their health. He looks fabulous and did not recognize him until they put the 'before' picture up! You go boy! Now go out and get a new wardrobe and let the haters keep on hatin'!

Weight loss surgery is one of the biggest scams being perpetrated on Obese Americans by the American medical institution.

There is never enough follow-up after gastric bypass. The patient must accept that he/she must NEVER go back to old habits and that is just too difficult for most people who have created a life around food.

Who knew? Dude isn't that bad looking. It's a two-fer, prevent scarring on the heart muscle, and get more ass. Good move Horatio.

So? As long as he gets healthy, who cares how he did it? I don't think people who get weight loss surgery care if people think they took "the easy way". And as someone who works for a surgeon who performs these surgeries, I can tell you it definitely isn't easy. You have to make a complete lifestyle change, on top of recovering from a major procedure. Trust me - you wouldn't wish what they have to go through on your worst enemy. I'm kind of assuming you meant this as a slam on Horatio, but if you didn't - my bad.

They don't "have" to go through it, that's the point. They go through it because restricting calories and exercising is more effort than they want to put in, so why would they comply with doctor's orders after surgery? Big psychological problems if you want to eat yourself to death.

I so agree. This is relevant because so many people suffer from obesity, yet they don't know how to address it.

If Horatio tries to say he just "ate right and worked out", he is misleading the public on a critical health issue. As easy as that sounds (eat right and work out), millions of people have tried that but still could not get that deadly weight off their bodies.

He should admit that he had the surgery so that we can have more public awareness about this option. Lives will be saved.

I hear what you're saying, quotidien. But, what if he did just exercise and diet? I didn't see anything saying that he denies having the surgery. If he did have the surgery, and lied about it like Star Jones, that's one thing. Otherwise, it's not really his responsibility to educate the public about health issues. So, I say we should just congratulate him on taking control of his weight, no matter how he did it. He can still be an inspiration to obese people without disclosing personal medical information.

It should NOT be an option, it is just a temporary fix, it does nothing to change a persons diet in the long run.
So many people regain the weight once the surgery is reversed, and it must be reversed because of the loss of vital nutrients.

Don't always assume that this is the reason why people have big weight losses, I lost 182 lbs without having surgery to restrict my diet.
It takes Will Power and Commonsense is all, surgery is NOT the answer.

Eating right and working out can and does work. the thing that usually does people in is discipline and also knowledge of how to go about getting rid of old habits and knowledge of nutrition. Horatio has done pretty well for himself in his career and having time off he could address all of these issues and on top of that he could hire a personal fitness trainer and nutrionist. I don't think saying "just eating right and excersizing" paints the right picture and belittles the work that went into this life-changing and impressive feat, but I think it's wrong to automatically assume that he got his stomach stapled. He may very well have done so, but innocent until proven guilty.

It does take a long time to totally replace your entire wardrobe.
While in the process of losing weight it does not make sense to be buying new clothes to just find yourself needing even smaller clothes a couple of months later.

In the past 2 years my waist size has gone from 44 inch to 34 inch, I would buy a new pair of jeans just to have them too big a month later.
I found it more economical to tighten the belt than to constantly buy new jeans.
At my heaviest my waist was 52 inches.
