Alan Colmes Replacement Poll: Who Should It Be?

Now that Alan Colmes has decided to take his leave of Fox's Hannity And Colmes, who will replace him? Brian Stelter figures that it will be nobody, leaving Sean Hannity to go solo. But hope springs eternal over at Stelter's old stomping grounds, TV Newser. They've got a reader poll up, soliciting responses on possible replacements. Among the choices are the solo option, wooing Harold Ford, Jr. away from CNN, giving Al Franken a thorny place to land if the Minnesota Senate recount doesn't go his way, Susan Estrich (OMG, no, please!), Bob Beckel, and Kirsten Powers. Democratic strategist Peter Feld endorses his "articulate, liberal friend" Powers for the job, saying, "It will be an improvement." Why not? Powers is a columnist for the New York Post and a former contributor to the American Prospect, and is an Alaskan who can speak in complete sentences - even using the final "g" sound in gerunds!

Feld provides this clip of Powers causing Ann Coulter to have an emotional breakdown on the air all without doing anything more than being reasonable and speaking in an unraised voice.

What other within-the-realm-of-possibility personages would you like to see face off against Hannity?

Michael Brown was exactly right about homegrown terrorists. Ann Coulter is as fake an intellectual as her blonde hair. As for a replacement for Colmes, just put Ann Coulter in. I wouldn't watch it anyway.

Why? Because, in the 'stump Tucker' competition that occurred throughout the campaign..­..NOBODY LOST!!!!!

That makes a perfect replacement for Colmes, who claimed to be an opponent and never won an argument. Not one. Probably because his soft voice was never even heard. He could be replaced by a rock, and the liberals would be ahead of the game.

Granted, Hannity is pretty tough. But couldn't he at least have had a LITTLE bit of competition? Hannity is so tough, I think that if he did have Tucker on the show, he would have him for lunch, even though he AGREES with him!

So, how about Bachmann? At least Hannity would be accused of sexism now and then! Again, he would agree with her, but so what? He could always pretend not to.

Wow, Kirsten Powers has a bigger pair than Alan Colmes. Ann Coulter has pulled her victim role on Fox (and other stations) many, many times. Good for Powers she didn't fall for it.

how about a potted plant, maybe a ficus or even a rubber tree? it would have more presence, forceful opinions and, quite possibly, air time that colmes ever has. as al franken rightly pointed out, colmes is the washington generals of political analysts -- he's not there to present a competing viewpoint, his only role is to give hannity a few line to riff on. does anyone actually think fix snooze would pair hannity with someone of substance? if he is replaced by nobody, would anyone even notice?

I would hope that whoever it is, it would be someone who would challenge Hannity. I feel he is the most dishonest right wing personality on the air and that he would quickly fold if someone could constest his assertions. To say the least, he is not bright. He's entitled to his opinion but should not be allowed to fabricate facts and half-truths. I'm not holding my breath and I don't plan to watch the new show---even out of curiousity.

Kirsten Powers was rude and overbearing. She wouldn't give Coulter a chance to speak. I don't usually like Coulter but she should be allowed to speak. Powers is usually boring. Guess she wants Colmes' job so she was trying to be confrontational.
