Wolfson

With Hillary Clinton seemingly locked up for the post of Secretary of State, several Democratic sources have begun speculating that her long-time communications hand, Howard Wolfson, would be brought on board to help with the task.

A seasoned press flack who Clinton implicitly trusts -- and, it should be added, who is more than capable of handling the job of State Department spokesperson -- Wolfson is a naturally good fit. But there is one problem: he has a famous fear of flying (Jason Horowitz of the New York Observer called him "the John Madden of politics.") And to conceivably work in State, air travel is important.

Well, it turns out, Wolfson no longer suffers aviophobia.

The man who had to chauffeur himself across the country during the Democratic primary -- and who, for family vacations, would often drive to the destination while his wife and daughter flew -- now is comfortable traveling via plane. Since the end of the Democratic primary, he tells the Huffington Post, he has flown to Europe on three occasions, twice to the West Coast, to each party's convention, Florida, Boston and (on several occasions) New York City.

"Something just snapped," Wolfson explained to New York Magazine last month, "and I wasn't afraid anymore. It had to do with wanting to get out of the country as soon as possible."

With this hitch hammered out, it is easy to see how Wolfson ends up with the communications spot at State, provided of course that Clinton is actually appointed. But, before going there, he throws a bit of cold water on the theory.

"I'm not sure it's for me in any case," he writes, "but the flying wouldn't be an issue."

He fully threw his support behind Barack so I don't mind Howard on the team.

Um I would check Youtube, he spends his nights agreeing with Karl Rove and BIll O'reilly on Fox News.

I don't see Obama letting in ANY Fox News employees.

The purpose of this article is simply to inflame Democrats, for the sake of hits.

I am honestly dissapointed with Sam on this artcile, he knows better.

Perfect choice! Wolfson is a loyal friend and does an excellent job representing Secretary Clinton.

Yea, but the SOS serves the President, not themselves.

Hillary doesn't need "her people" and if she has learned her lesson from the Primary she would know well enough to move on.

And how is Wolfson a loyal friend when he takes a job with Dick Morris and BIll Oreilly ?

Trust me, I don't see Obama who ignored questions from Fox on his first news conference do a 180 and then hire one of their analysts.

He sure is a loyal friend palling around with Karl Rove and Bill O Reilly over at Fox Noise.

Thanks but NO thanks!

"palling around?"
Are you related to Governer Palin?

Working on a network at your job is hardly "palling around."

If that were the case then Rachel Maddow is "palling around" with Pat Buchanan.

Wolfson should remain at Fox, where he can lie with impunity. His favorite occupation.

how can you be afraid of flying but still drive a car? Way more people die driving than flying.

He's more afraid of living because a kernel of his soul despises that he lies with impunity.

because a lot of fears are not rational. and those that centre around a loss of control are fairly pervasive. i actually fly (single engine) myself and yet when i set foot on a commercial airliner, i feel a little more anxious than when i get into my car.

"for family vacations, would often drive to the destination while his wife and daughter flew "

That's weird.

This was my biggest fear of bringing Hillary on board. I tried to be patience with Obama pick but it seems all loyalty and no competence at State is what WE don't need. Mark my words Foggy Bottom will be a Banna Republic.

No way! Wolfson and Penn are the Democratic Karl Roves. They're divisive fascists... not what we need right now.

Given Hillary's proclivity to first hire advisers like Mr. Wolfson and then pit him against others in her team in a Darwinian desire to distill the best advise from an arena that sounds like a dogfighting pen, perhaps a more bold move than rehiring her flawed teammates should she be appointed SoS might be to bring onboard some people associated with Obama's SUCCESSFUL campaign team as her deputies.

That's HRC for you. She chooses her staff based on their loyalty to her, , i.e., "who she implicitly trusts", not on their competence or experience. Someone with a history of race baiting as a spokesperson to the "non-white" nations of the world?
