ontinuation of RANT!...................
Then BILL GATES THAT HERO..................rendered it obsolete by refusing to allow a MAc upgrade for Internet Explorer. SO I bought a used I book ( the ones GIVEN to school kids in Maine) but I could barely see the images on the terrible moniter! At this point I am a 65 year old single woman, trying to survive on a SS pension less than $700.00 per month! A kind friend who believes in my work bought me this fancy new IMac with the 24" monitor............I have 3 years of work LOST that I can't up grade or add to because the software is NO LONGER compatable. Yes hours of my time down the drain! I LOVE the new computer.....but the newer version of Corel Paintier isn't as good as the 4.0 version which isn't as good as the Fractel Design software it spun off from! Gone FOREVER Thanks BILL! I still haven't managed to afford the COMPLETE software package I had on my OS 9 G-3! They're as bad as Wall Street, DON"T SUPPORT THEM!
Then there'a ITune.....what tune? That's NOT MUSIC!
I heard Milley Cyrus sing (?) in the parade yesterday................Spears redou, younger version........
same old same old......NON SOUND! When this country listens to something less monotonous rythmn wise.. and less torturtous than scraping the notes out through the nasel passages, & over the vocal cords we wil have turned the corner into a bright new world.

I can help you.
Reading your rant it's clear you have a "hardware" problem!

My single 75 yr old widowed "computer wizard" Grandfather could help you with your simple software issues and would probably help you with your "hardware" issues if you would help him with his "Levitra software" issues.
I can hook you up, girl!

You YOUNG PEOPLE have GOT to stop ENABLING Macintosh! ( And the entire techy world!)
I have a Mac intel duo tiger.....if you gave me a PC I'd give it back!
But Steve Bullmar is crazy as a loon, and Bill Gates is now being a hero giving away money, that he earned from my blood sweat & tears!
Technology was important enough to my Art career, to return to College at 57, to learn it.
I managed to buy myself a used G-3 ( has 3 slots for floppies, CD's & zip disks) and the graphic design software I needed to use. As a VISTA, I was sent by my supervisor to learn how to take it apart, zap the pram and fix it.....................

Well bubba I'm 62 on Monday and have had an Apple on my home desk since 1982. I've used many varieties of windows machines and many that weren't and are no longer in existence. I've used minicomputers and mainframes.

and I won't have any other machine on my desk than a Mac. I cheered when Apple ditched the floppy drive. the only people who think they need them are windows users who don't know any better.

I can troubleshoot ANYTHING that goes wrong with my Mac. and I've "converted" hardcore windows users who have NEVER EVER looked back and are now out "converting" their friends.

Shouldn't Apple be expected to pay for advertising space like this? Will Macy's sales also be "news"?

Overpriced?!

Gonna buy that virus protection for the Mac? Naaah! How's the digital movie software that comes with the PC? DVD project software? Built-in music production software? Built-in, synchable calendar? Free, full-function Open Source developer tools? Thousands of Open Source applications free for downloading? World-class stability?

Oh, yeah! I'm going to run right out and buy a cheap PC, buy all the software I need to become equivalent to a Mac, dedicate the cycles necessary to watch for viruses, malware, spyware, and trojans, and I'm going to be HAPPY about it!

And if I want to screw my Mac up with XP or Vista, I can run 64-bit better than any piece of PC iron you can name.

I'm a Mac user and I'm totally lame. Whip me now.

Overpriced Indeed.

Why don't you download the new Fedora 10 64-bit. (Free). Comes with open source Office and productivity (Free), stuff like K3B, Audacity and GIMP for media production (Free) and world class stability.

The Linux (or UNIX) kernel architecture it what the Mac OS is based on.

Oh, and no viruses/spyware/adware either.

Just kidding, Mac is way better than any Micro$crap software any day; but it's still not Linux :)

"Overpriced?" Why wouldn't you expect to pay more for better technology? I'm forced to use PC's at work and I'm regularly astonished at the tedium PC users have to put up with.

The only reason Windows has survived in the marketplace is it's a cash cow for the support, maintenance, service, and training industries.

I used to think the same thing, but 18 months ago, I made the switch. $3K for a macbook pro with max memory and all the goodies. Comes with music player, movie maker, email, unix under the hood, photo management tool, calendaring, notes and all kinds of other stuff--and for $70 more, I got pages/numbers/keynote for the whole family, and all of it is fast, secure (no viruses and malware) and doesn't require constant upgrades. I shut down the machine once a month or so just to handle the occiasional OS upgrade that requires it.

After two years, the machine runs just as fast as before.

Just switch over and use a Mac for a week, you'll never go back. I just recently started a contract job where they use dells. My God, I'd forgotten how bad the PC experience is. Constantly restarting, constantly having to update virus stuff, etc etc etc. Just simple things I miss (like being able to take custom screen shots whenever I want, having sticky notes on the screen, being able to clear my screen with F11, having Spaces to work in different virtual desktops) make me smile when I get home and back to my mac.

Music player? Email? A CALENDAR?!?! OMG! This is all just too much! It's definitely time for me to upgrade!

Oh yea Virus, the old Chestnut of all Apple users. With the three grand you donated to the temple of Jobs, I could get a new PC laptop every six months for a year and a half. Why do I need Virus protection when I can upgrade ever 180 days for the same price!!

Does anyone have an iTouch? How does the wi-fi work? Seems like you'd just be out the price of the gadget and not be stuck with ATT's $70 or more a month (don't forget the "fees" which run about 17% more).
iTouch's let you do everything except make a phone call?
Any tips or advise appreciated..........

IMHO, it's the iPhone that requires a contract with AT&T, which is a good reason (of more than one) that I'll not buy one of those items (When Apple opens its licensing contracts to other telecom providers, I'll take another look.). iPod Touch can use wi-fi at any location, can send and receive email, and like the iPhone, has that whiz-bang visual blam-o that's hard to dismiss at the first or any subsequent sampling. It probably should be cheaper than it is, but I'm always looking for a bargain. That said, I don't think I'd part with my money for iPod Touch. I already have a Mac laptop that I can take with me to any wi-fi location, I can use it as a desktop, and I can do whatever I want with it as a normal computer. I can already download movies (with far better storage capacity) and do all that the smaller gizmo does, but with a larger read-out. For music and even films, the iPod Classic is the better bargain, now with 120 gigs of storage for all of the music that you're likely to listen to in half a lifetime. If I were in the planning mood, I'd wait for about a year as Apple tries to make its hand-held products more accessible. I'd look for iPhone to go beyond AT&T. BTW, I'm not affiliated in any way with Apple.

They are great. I sometimes can't get it out of my wifes hand. The wi-fi is great. Thousands of applications, many for free. Web browsing, email, music...just about everything the iPhone has.

If you are happy with your phone and service, the iPod Touch is a very nice addition to your gadget arsenal.

not... I currently have the blackberry and plan and pay 100.00 per month. With an Iphone I will pay 79.00 thereby shaving $20.00 per month off my bill...

I run nearly exclusively Apple, and have for years: their quality control has taken a nose dive as the Chinese factories QA dives.

Not that I've noticed and I have managed/owned everything recent since the egg iMac. I've also owned before that but to be honest the laptops before the aluminum powerbooks were bloody terrible.

No problems here. I've owned tons of Apple equipment since the late 80's, and will say that their latest offerings are probably the best ever in terms of quality.

No, the one's that just "had to have" the phone when it came out.

Probably similar to the folks that bought the $300K house 5 years ago while they were making $30K a year and now they're crying because their mortgage payment doubled.

I think of all the people that are limited in an idea of what an iPhone can do and I giggle my firm a$$ off. I know of one person that paid $600 for an iPhone and that was because she had a corporate account. She was reimbursed. That being said, me and the at least 12 other iPhone users that I am friends with paid $199. And we're all quite pleased with the product.

Well aren't you special?

I was particularly amused by the one's that waited in line for theirs. You know, the folks that don't have corporate accounts?

That being said, your grammar sucks! The sentence should read "My 12 friends and me, or I,". I've noticed that most self absorbed people phrase sentences like that. The are likely to buy affectatious toys like iPhones too.

To some people (Me) $600 is nothing. Sorry that bothers some other people (You)
