The Peru news agency Andina notes that President Bush was drinking a Peruvian cocktail during the recent APEC summit:

Peru has successfully promoted its national drink "Pisco Sour" during the Asia Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) Leaders' Summit, Peru's Environment Minister Antonio Brack said Sunday.

He noted that the flagship drink of Peru was well acepted by international guests, including Japan's Prime Minister, Taro Aso.

"Pisco Sour has been the "star" of the APEC Summit, the drink was served in several meetings at the Government Palace and the APEC Summit venue," he told CPN Radio.

...

U.S. President George W. Bush, who quit drinking at 40, was apparently drinking a Peruvian cocktail during a meeting on Saturday.

Pisco Sour is a cocktail containing Pisco (a Peruvian brandy), lemon juice, egg whites, simple syrup, and regional bitters.

Bush is pictured drinking the cocktail here:

Of course, the president often drinks non-alcoholic beer; he could easily be drinking a non-alcoholic Pisco Sour in this shot.

Pruno is jail-made hooch, but it's not made in a toilet, because it has to ferment for a long time. It's made in plastic jugs, usually.

I don't wish a relapse on anyone. Alcohalism is a terrible disease, and it negatively affects everyone around the alcohalic. In this case it would also be a great danger to our country at this very crucial time, so I hope he is drinking lemonade.

Having said that....For quite some time I have suspected George is drinking again...or something...because he has displayed some very erratic behavior...messaging the President of Germany, and OH MY GOSH the OLYMPICS! Also his appearance at times has that stressed puffy alcohalic look, and most of all, sometimes his speech is very very "mushy" and he is sniffing a lot recently as though his sinus are constantly blocked.
Add to that , he is oblivious to reality.

We were never informed when Ronald Reagan had alzheimers while in office...or that Nixon had alcohal and serious paranoia issues, or that Kennedy was a drug addict due to his illness and constant pain. So it wouldn't be unusual for them to be hiding the fact that GW has been drinking his way through his Presidency. SCARY but not unusual.

In Dubya's case, that means 7 billion people on the planet Earth...

I don't believe he ever quit. You hit the nail on the head with your description of his demeanor.

I don't like Bush but this article is petty and mean. If he truly is drinking again, I feel very sorry for him.

In my opinion he has been drinking for years. Look at his eyes and his general apperance, hair etc. Like he just rolled out of bed after too much the night before.Lately he looks awful if there is press coverage in the morning.

Scroll back in your memory banks folks....its just after Nov 4, 2000 and George is shown at his (just got it, its so cool being a cowboy) ranch. He is sitting in a living room with his advisers. On the table next to him is what appears to be a glass of red wine. Of course, in shrubs world, wine doesn't count.
Shazzamm, shazzam.....

After looking at his last 8 yrs in office, is there really any reason to believe he EVER STOPPED.

For sure, a drunkard couldn't have done any worst.

It's only natural for the President to celebrate his last Cocaine run to Peru with a little cheer.
What does he have to fear? Low approvals ratings and the fact that the people wont like him?

I think all that "quit drinking, drugs/found religion" has always been a front. How can you call yourself a Christian and still be as ruthless as he is? I saw no humility, even as he ran up the numbers killing people on death row as governor of Texas there were stories of how he mocked the people on death row when Gonzo would slime in and have him sign the order to kill someone. And when did he give a rat's ass about the less fortunate among us? I feel that way x 2 when it comes to Cheney.

As for Bush's drinking, there was one press conference (I think when Hamas gained power) where, if he wasn't drunk, he was high. At that conference he was even worse than usual in trying to speak a full sentence.

Yep, his clean living was all a front to entice likeminded rednecks and to steal the election from Gore then Kerry. Well, George, you will have the lives of thousands of Iraqi's and American's on your head to live with forever. It's going to take more than a Pisco sour to live with that for all eternity!

I am not a fan of Bush, but I am one of fairness. You "trash" him in the first words of the story and end with "Of course, the president often drinks non-alcoholic beer; he could easily be drinking a non-alcoholic Pisco Sour in this shot."

This is typical of the "trash and kiss" ploy the Republicans use.

Exactly. GWBs people are there to deal with minutae like this- 'the President does not drink alcohol' -- etc., and advance arrangements are made eons in advance. This is non-news; the HuffPost is better than this.

"This is non-news; the HuffPost is better than this."

Are we reading the same HuffPost? I love the Huffington Post and turn to it daily, but lurid headlines and inflated non-news are its specialty: gossip with a gloss of content.

I agree. Often, recovering alcoholics will order a plain coke with a twist of lime -- completely non-alcoholic but allows the individual to "blend in" so to speak. So, it is quite possible that the drink in the picture is non-alcoholic. But, as has often been commented on Huffpo, Bush often appears to be, at a minimum, on a "dry-drunk" of sorts. His behavior seems to reinforce that characterization. So, his recovery program does seem to be missing certain essential, core spiritual elements. At least that's the appearance, anyway.
