Nov. 24 (Bloomberg) -- A professor at the diplomatic academy of Russia's Ministry of Foreign Affairs said the U.S. will break into six parts because of the nation's financial crisis.

"The dollar isn't secured by anything," Igor Panarin said in an interview transcribed by Russian newspaper Izvestia today. "The country's foreign debt has grown like an avalanche; this is a pyramid, which has to collapse."

Panarin said in the interview that the financial crisis will worsen, unemployment will rise and people will lose their savings -- factors that will cause the country's breakup.

"Dissatisfaction is growing, and it is only being held back at the moment by the elections, and the hope" that President- elect Barack Obama "can work miracles," he said. "But when spring comes, it will be clear that there are no miracles."

It does not sound "crazy" to me... the theory is probably a whole lot more plausible than a nation-wide revolt against the ruling class and a restoration of our republic simply because our current nation is divided strongly by region on ideological issues.

Well, I'm not so sure that his prediction was "ignorant."

Clearly he is aware of the tumultuous political and financial environment of the US these days.

Whether his conclusion will prove to be right or wrong will depend on more factors than he has outlined.

The US has risen to the occasion to address crises in the past.

If Americans are able to unite in the face of what we have to deal with these days, he will be proven wrong. But it won't be automatic.

Its seems to the statement that are Americans are able to unite is not approved. All the history samples you can point are all about old nation.
Today American society is quite different.

Big ammount of spain-speaking society is prefered to join Mexico not Washing ton is there will be a choice and no difference in social stats and social support from government.

This is probably one of the most ignorant predictions I have heard in a long time. This person obviouslly knows NOTHING about America.

IThere is no such dicussions in Texas about breaking from the "union". What kind of books has he been educating himself with. The scary thought is that he is a professor. I would be more worried about the quality of education in Russia than America breaking up with this crazy prediction. I never laughed so hard in my life.

And as far as the quality of education...

"U.S. fans fed up with the BCS may find little comfort in the OECD rankings. The apropos U.S. refrain would run something like, "We're No. . . . Ah, 'Bout Average, Dude, . . . Whatever." U.S. students finished 15th in reading, 19th in math and 14th in science - and in a study that only ranked 31 nations."

Like I said, keep laughing.
