I Like ItI Don’t Like It

On Tuesday, John McCain held his first press conference since the election. Asked if he would ever run for president again, the Arizona Senator seemed to find the idea so funny that he could barely get a word out. Finally, he managed to say, "I do not envision a scenario that would entail that." He does, however, intend to run for Senate again. Watch:

McCain also praised his running mate Sarah Palin, calling her "a breath of fresh air that swept the country."

"We worked hard and inspired a lot of people," he said. "We look back with pride on the campaign we ran."

"I think Governor Palin's future is very bright," McCain added. "I think she did a great job of energizing our base. I'm very proud of her."

Do you not understand what "laughing hysterically" means? The most McCain gave here was a sustained chuckle.

I'm offended that you would use this headline just to get a few extra page views.

No kidding. The headline writers at HuffPo have a pretty limited emotional range if that counts as hysterics.

If only the McCain of 2000 had run in 2008 - and now he is getting back to the McCain of 2000 - he would likely be the next President...

Glad to see that the real McCain is coming back.

I'm glad he showed his nasty side during this recent campaign, because I'm thrilled that he's NOT the President. His choice of Sarah Palin told me just how ambitious he was, and their "Country First" slogan was just that - a slogan. He was willing to put that woman in a position of real power. How scary can life get?

There's nothing "hysterical" in this piece other than the title.

I totally agree. This place cries "wolf" about a hundred times a week, when it is really "poodles."
Gets old, saps credibility.

McCain and Palin captured 46% of the vote, why?

By all appearances the dumbing and numbing of America started at the top. Nothing of McCain or Palin speaks of substance.

No Northerner has been elected President since 1960. You throw in the fact that the man is African-American and his name, I think his 53% was a landslide.

Perhaps,,,,,, if you are a stable boy, in charge of combing out the horses tails.

All the best

I am still finding it difficult to believe, given the mammoth task of restoring some semblance of order to the economy, and the careful deliberation with which Mr. Obama is choosing his team, that anyone in the right minds are still thinking that either Palin or McCain could execute this task. The job wont even be over when he's chosen them. It will barely have begun. The real job is keepig them inspired and working as a team, as a well oiled machine.

Palin, Palin, what an insult to the post of President that you should consider yourself qualified, especially in this time of crisis. But you have brought us much laughter, and for that we are grateful. I still wanna ask though, what does it mean, you have "energized the base"?

Who in the world with eyes and ears would ever look at this and deem his response "hysterical"?
The headline writer has a very low threshold. Imagine what would have written if someone asked McCain a Knock Knock joke.

The headlines have been catching a lot of flack lately, deservedly so. Lots of misleading ones abounding.

I expect a partisan point of view from huffington post. I want it actually. But to use the headline "Hysterical" for that clip is basically being exactly like fox news on the left. I hope I don't see that too often on the huffington post.

Just tell us he laughed. That's the truth. The headline was dishonest.

We can make our own characterizations and form our own opinions as to what his laugh "really means."

Maybe we can change the word "objective" to "maintaining honest communication."

Third. I think I may be close to being done with HuffPo. The headlines here have always been a tad misleading and sensationalist, and it seems to be getting worse since the election - like they're trying as hard way too hard to keep things interesting.

I third it

As a Brit, I can say that the questioner was being an ignorant Limey!! His question was: "you say that you are running again in 2010....is that for President?".

He doesn't seem to realise that presidential elections are only once every four years and that McCain's senatorial seat is going to be up for reelection in 2010 (as a member of the 2nd class) which is what he will (possibly) be running for.

Probably some junior reporter from the Independent.

Fair point. Characterizing McCain's laughter as "genuine" would have been more accurate -- and still a headline because of its rarity.
