From TechCrunch.com

Update on the Kindle 2: It was scheduled to be released in October in time for this holiday season, but Bezos himself reportedly pulled the plug for last minute changes to the software. Our sources now say it's tentatively scheduled to go on sale in "early next quarter."

The images that surfaced of the new Kindle in October are real - it's a longer device but not as thick as the original Kindle, and fixes some of the button issues that plague users (like accidental page turns). A larger-screen student version is still scheduled for the first half of 2009.

Overpriced. No way, no how, Bezos. You can get a laptop for the same price, and you do a heck of a lot more than read a book. The first version had issues, typical of a technology product. Pity the poor suckers who just bought one, soon to be obsolete. It also forces you to use Amazon and pay thru the nose for books and it does not read formats other than their proprietary one, just like their crappy smartphone.

Well lets see you put a ' Guess where I found the internet card in thats 100 bucks plus 35 a month if you dont downlod very much thats over 500 not counting the 500 for a laptop that works. Then you have a voracious reader who uses a forrest a year in paper. 100 books at 10 bucks instead of 25 well your 1500 dollar a year savings on that and in two years the spouse could have saved enoug for the Alienware 51 notebook basic edition.

It is a great device for patients with difficulty going to book stores or the library. The dowloads are fast and done on cell phone network not Wi Fi so can be done anywhere. Most books are bargin priced at 9.99 where a hardcover copy would be 26 bucks. I highly recommend it. It holds thousands of books with a memory card added.

The price point for this is so far off base- $357.00 is crazy. I would think twice at $99.00.

How well does a Kindle work under a leg to steady a table?

Will it fit in my breast pocket and possibly stop a bullet?

Will there be "Pop-Up" Kindles?

I needs to know

Wasn't that sweet of Oprah to help Bezos empty the warehouse of the crappy first generation Kindles, with that phony-baloney I love-love-love it hard sell.

I like everything about the one I've got.. To get my purchase price back I'll need to hang onto it for at least two more years.

FInally. I've been waiting for the Kindle 2- electric boogaloo. I tried out the Kindle and the page buttons were the biggest turn off. Hundreds of books in my hand? Yes please.

Can I give, lend, or sell the e-books to other Kindle owners when I'm finished with them, as I do with a book?

Then you will be missing out; just like if you were to say that unless an iPod was the cost of a record you would not buy one... imagine carrying thousands of books in the palm of your hand, it's way cool!

Why the need for a separate device ? Just put your ebooks on a pda ...

Get an eBookwise. Ugly, yes, but it feels like a paperback book in your hand, you can put tons of formats on it, and you can get them on eBay sometimes for $25. $125 new. If you mostly read books it's vastly better. If newspapers/magazines, then no, isn't this e-Paper thing, but it's perfect for books.
