Los Angeles Times:

The Northeast's dwindling cast of Senate Republicans has Democrats circling Arlen Specter's seat in Pennsylvania, convinced the party is well-positioned to make a competitive race out of the 2010 election.

Leading the pack of prospects -- at least in celebrity -- is Chris Matthews, the MSNBC "Hardball" host and a former Capitol Hill Democratic staffer. The Philadelphia native has been toying with a run for months, and this week he sat down with state Democrats to discuss the prospect of taking on the five-term GOP senator.

Others considered in the mix include Rep. Joe Sestak, who is sitting on $3 million in campaign funds; state Rep. Josh Shapiro; and U.S. Rep. Allyson Y. Schwartz, a two-term Philadelphia area lawmaker who has moved up quickly on the Hill and has a Rolodex full of prospective donors from her unsuccessful 2000 Senate run. "We'll see," she said about a repeat bid.

"There are a lot of compelling reasons why serious Democrats would aspire to run in 2010," said Pennsylvania Democratic Party Chairman T.J. Rooney, who said Matthews had been in Pennsylvania Monday meeting with other Democratic leaders.

This is a gentleman who may have a lot of knowledge but the truth is mixed in with misinformation put out there by right wing think tanks, As an example he claimed that Kennedy and Nixon were very good friends-After meetingNixon Kennedy said where do the Republicans dig these people up. Running for the Senate will get him off the air which is a good thing hopefully running for the Senate the Dems will have somebody better this on the ticket, The guy cannot connect the dots. When the Rethugs threw out Who would you rather have a drink with- and we were all supposed to say Bush Mathews mulled over that thought for weeks as if it were a brilliant reason to vote for Bush.Never once ponting out what a ridiculous reasson to vote for a President. He is shabby intellectually and unpredictable on how he will stand on issues. Retirement is his best option.

I can not take those MSNBC Lockup shows anymore! How can they run a marathon of them for Thanksgiving!!!!!!!
I want a re-run of Election night, the debates, Countdown, Rachel Maddow anyhing politics rather than those awful shows.
Where is "the place for politics" again?

I agree. Those Lockup shows are used as filler when the entire staff is off for the holidays or weekends. I would absolutely love to watch a rerun of election night though. That's a great idea.

What's up with downer prison episodes? What a complete and utter turnoff. I don't get it? MSNBC must have a solid audience for those shows to keep turning them out. Yuck! What a waste of airtime.

I agree. How MSNBC thinks it will be number one with these type of shows is baffling. I also can't stand the pedator programs they run. Here you have some really good, solid programs like Countdown and Rachel Maddow and then you air ridiculous garbage. Doesn't anyone in charge get it at MSNC.

Chris and Rachel have THE best shows on MSNBC. Chris by far has the best interviews. I love how he gets to the nitty gritty on the issues.

Chris has an ego the size of Alaska (no coincidence) and from time to time loses his mind on-air. But, I like his politics. Go for it.

In an early look at Pennsylvania's 2010 U.S. Senate race, a new Quinnipiac poll shows Sen. Arlen Specter (R-PA) leads TV commentator Chris Matthews, a possible Democratic challenger, 45% to 33%.

Specter leads 72% to 9% among Republicans and 45% to 27% among independent voters, while Matthews leads 55% to 25% among Democrats.

Matthews does have a really nasty habit of just interrupting the hell out of people. And sometimes he drools too. Other than that, except for his obvious Republican and misogynistic bias, he's okay.

When he runs, will he do anything about the drooling?

Matthews unnecissarily tells us he is a Republican, so wtf is he going to run as a dem for? He will be another Leiberman. The media people going into our politics is just creepy.

Though his brother is a Republican, Chris, I believe is a Democrat. He worked for both Jimmy Carter as a speech writer, and in Tip O'Neill's office.

I've heard him say he was Republican
And during the election, his demeanor would change around, like when hillary was beating Barack he would be all happy.
when palin caused some excitement for about a week before everyone found out how crazy she was, he was bouncing around so excited about her! Then I think after the debates, and Palin showed her grandiose narcissism he would look like he was going to cry sometimes. A person's body language is much more important than what they say.

He was raised by Republican parents, but when he left the nest he became a Dem. He has worked for Dems, that's true, but he has voted Republican too. I think he goes both ways.
