Via Politico, Former Hillary Clinton campaign flack (and current Fox News contributor) Howard Wolfson tells the New York Times how the Drudge siren drove him mad:

By the end of the campaign, I was seeing the Drudge siren in my sleep. As people in politics know all too well, Matt Drudge, the Internet provocateur who runs the Drudge Report Web site, posts a flashing siren whenever he wants to alert readers to major campaign news or rumors. The siren haunted my dreams and was always in the corner of my eye -- except when it was in plain sight, on my computer screen, signifying success or, more often, terrible failure and impending doom. As soon as that siren started flashing, instant messages would pop up, just below the siren, one after another -- each one beginning with "Seen Drudge?" until my entire computer screen was filled with instant-message boxes illuminated by the light of Drudge's siren. It might have been beautiful if it hadn't been so frightening.

Wow, so the Clinton team smears the left AGAIN!

Everyone knows via quotes and HUGE flame wars that the HRC campaign feared liberal watch groups and websites.

Go and look at archives of MYdd and hillis44, those people HATED Arianna, Markos, MSNBC and really anyone who called themselves progressive.

Hillary famously bashed MoveOn for caring about foreign policy and raising money for Democrats.

The last 2-3 months of the primary were turned into war because of people like Wolfson and Penn who really just hate Democrats.

I don't call for purity, but we must eliminate these folks from our ranks, they will not change and their is no future, they had their chance.

And THIS, in a nutshell, is why the people who 'advised' the Clinton's in any way, shape or form over the years, whether on a campaign (like with this Bozo), or behind the scene convincing her that invading Iraq was 'a must' (AEI's Michael O'Hanlon), should be barred from all government-related work, direct of in an even limited advisory role... permanently.

F-ing morons.

Seriously. This is exactly how Hillary approaches her politics too, as if she's scared of the Drudge Report at all moments.

Actually, the correct term is beacon and not siren, most folk use this incorrectly, the siren is the part you hear on an emergency vehicle, not the flashing lights bit you see that are purdy.

No... a siren is a mythic creature who's song lures sailors to their deaths. The term is used correctly.

Sorry, I read the context of what Wolfson said, you are correct. He used it improperly, not you.

So what exactly is Wolfson's point? It's about him and not Drudge. I think he makes himself look stupid. Should have shut up.

WHAT A LOSER!

Man Huff, you know how to get us posting and clicking, man but common, lets not tear this fool to pieces anymore.

Drudge lost all relevancy a while ago.

This is the HRC primary breathing it's last breaths?

Why, because Wolfson and Penn considered Huffington, DailyKos, and MoveOn their mortal enemies.

Never during the campaign did HRC point the guns at Drudge.

Why does anyone even care about Drudge? His site looks like it was designed by an eight-year-old, and it's nothing but a link to other people's articles. Other than his looney-tunes headlines, I can't figure out what useful information you could possibly hope to glean from him.

right. As Rachel Maddow said once in her signing off after an Arianna Huffington interview: the woman who made the Drudge Report irrelevent. We might as well talk about Rush and Newsmax for crying out loud. They're basically the same operation.

I love HuffPo. I'd heard of it, but only truly discovered it ( I know - I'm slow) during the primaries and it was a lifeline. So many voices and opinions popping like corn. Not just the bloggers and the sourced news items, but the commentary under the articles. I've learned a lot - often that I was wrong. Or confirmed that I was right. And oh the venting. I felt better reading other people let off steam or clear away the smoke around an issue.

Frankly - I think Huffington Post deserves a HuffPo Pick.

"No, Sam. I can't recall the taste of food... nor the sound of water... nor the touch of grass. I'm... naked in the dark, with nothing, no veil... between me... and the wheel of fire! I can see him... with my waking eyes!"
