WASHINGTON — President George W. Bush is relishing the chance to see "the klieg lights shift somewhere else," although he admits he'll miss perks like White House cooking and flying on Air Force One.

"Frankly, I'm not going to miss the limelight all that much," Bush said in an intimate family conversation with his sister, Doro Bush Koch, about how he'll feel when he leaves the White House to make way for Barack Obama on Jan. 20.

"Been a fabulous experience to be president," Bush told Doro in the conversation recorded for the oral-history organization StoryCorps. But he said he'll be ready to go when the time comes.

Bush did acknowledge in the Nov. 12 conversation _ aired Thursday on National Public Radio's "Morning Edition" _ that he would miss the trips on the presidential jet and not having to worry about traffic. He and first lady Laura Bush both agreed in the talk that they would miss the chefs at the Executive Mansion, but disagreed about who would be in charge of meals when they move back to Texas in January.

"I'm sure I'm going to lose a lot of weight, because Laura's going to be the cook," Bush deadpanned. The first lady responded, "You're going to be the person grilling, though, I think."

The president also said he would miss spending time with his sister, who lives in the District of Columbia area.

"This is a job which, you know, obviously had a lot of stress to it; it has a lot of pressure," Bush said. "But when you're around your family at all, all that pales."

Since 2003, the nonprofit StoryCorps has helped people record nearly 25,000 interviews at stationary booths in New York and with mobile operations traveling around the country. Participants receive a CD of their 40-minute interview, and all recordings are archived at the Library of Congress.

He is sooooo out of touch with reality....
The sad part is he will go off in a pampered lifestyle, be looked after by the taxpayers, for the 30plus
years and it will be one more pathetic Bush at the trough of the American public. The only place I would not mind him and paying the bill for is in prison....still should be impeached! History has to record this last 8 year debacle. Get him a room next to Cheney.

With his drinking, he will never make 30 years.

Lets just make sure Jeb Bush never makes it to Washington. I know there is a plan like that out there
somewhere.

Well George, a lot of Americans are going to and are missing their jobs, their houses, sons and daughters in a war you started with no provoking, educations, food, cars, international reputation and peace of mind. I know you had nothing to do with it, but when for instance they came to you to sign off on removing the bank regulations, yes, that was you. You are now removing, under the dark of night the laws protecting endangered lands and species.

George, you are leaving a lot for us to remember why we do not miss you and the damage you did. It will take years for us to fix.

Just out of curiosity, you do know that the The Glass-Steagall Act of 1933 being repealed is probably the main factor for most of the bank failures, right? It is what allowed banks from overextending their assets and acquisitions.

I'm no fan of Bush, but he didn't repeal that act in 1999.

Is your argument that Bush bears no responsibility? Please elaborate? Are you one of these apologists who defend Bush at every turn, citing some obscure law or congressman that is the Bad Guy? And that Bush was just, doing his best under the circumstances? I just want to know where you're coming from, defending Bush in any regard demands justification.

I won't miss him for one g__damn minute! But seriously folks, what can you EXPECT him to say?

"I'll miss being of service to my country?"
"I'll miss being a broker of Peace in the middle east?"
"I'll miss being a gracious and intellectually stimulating representative of the United States as I travel around the world?"

Planting his stupid arse in a seat on Air Force One and gobbling up white house cooking is the ONLY thing that man did well....

Well, it may have been a " fabulous experience " for W, it has been Hell for the nation.

We definitely won't miss YOU, Georgie Boy!

Eight years ago, we all would have been appalled at any outgoing president that said he would miss the luxury perks of being in office. But after eight years of Bush, it seems merely mundane. Just goes to show you how much Bush has changed this nation ... for the worse.

Hey Georgie, have I got a deal for you!
How's about we take up a collection to buy you the private 747 of your choice AND your very own private chef? All you gotta do is agree to leave office right away. Sounds tempting, don't it, boy?

Yup, got rooms reserved at the Vegas Flamingo on the 19th and 20th. The entire family, who all
voted for Obama, will start with brunch and bubbly ,then the 44th swearing in on TV.
Yes we will cheer and celebrate.

Nope we're not well off, in fact, just lost every dollar made on 401 K for last 25 years but we are happy that this country gains much back in worldwide respect, gives hope to America again and soon another mother will not lose a child in Iraq.

Jan 20,2009, a good day!!

some call him courageous... I'd rather say bush is blind :-) unlike obama who's probly got the most sophisticated "peoples' opinion assessment team" or something like that. he probly monitors blogs and stuff, to make sure he's doing the right thing according to most people. And to affect their opinion if need be. Obama's got it www.spinwhip.com/obamaa is a nice way to see that!

This is really sad, and such an insult to the people he was elected to serve. How appropriate that I saw a bumper sticker which read: 1/20/09: The end of an error. Unfortunately, this error has affected too many live in our country and around the world
