Kristol's Next War: Send The US Marines After Somali Pirates

In addition to being a booster of the two actual wars in Afghanistan and Iraq, Bill Kristol and/or his publication has, at one time or another, also called for the United States to go to war with North Korea, Syria, Iran, and Sudan. And now he's got another war he's like to start:

And while [Bush is] at it, perhaps he could tell various admirals to stop moaning about how difficult it would be to deal with the pirates off the coast of Somalia (isn't keeping the shipping lanes open a core mission of the Navy?) and order the Navy to clobber them. If need be, the Marines would no doubt be glad to recapitulate their origins and join in by going ashore in Africa to destroy the pirates' safe havens.

Send Bill Kristol to Somalia. The place is perfect for his ideas to flourish; pirates on the coast (we can sink 'em!,) jihadist on the mainland (we can destroy them!,) non-existing government (we can set up democracy!) This place is a Neo-Con fantasy. Let's send them all there! Rummy, Cheney, Kristol, Pearl, Chalabi, and every a hole (especially jerks in the media like Kristol) complicit in our country's disastrous foreign policy.

It is very seldom I agree with Kristol about anything. But he is right this time.

The US spends more on its military than all the rest of the world combined. And yet we can't defeat a bunch of yahoos with no sophisticated weaponry either in Iraq or Afghanistan. The Pentagon wastes money on building new nuclear weapons when we have enough to destroy every living thing on earth many times over ( I have never quite figured out why the great brains felt the need to destroy every living thing more than once!) That great sinkhole called the Pentagon that swallows such a huge amount of the taxpayers money needs a complete rework.

Obviously considering the performance of the military in both Iraq and Afghanistan and the hesitation (or is it inability) of the Navy to deal with the pirates, our great military minds are still fighting WWII and Korea, instead of the realities of today. Maybe it is time to put our military to work rebuilding America's infrastructure instead of trying to be the policemen of the world, since the Pentagon has done such a pitiful job of playing cop. The only thing I am afraid of is the bridges and schools they build would fall down in 2 years and cost 100 times what they should.

Let the other developed nations start paying their fair share of the costs of policing the world, we can't afford it anymore.

Perhaps Kristol should either go himself or send one of his children to Somalia and to do battle with the pirates in person. perhaps he will think twice before screaming for more war. It's Somalia's business to deal with!

A private security firm hired by the shipping companies would be a better idea. A second idea would be for American servicemen and women to provide security for AMERICAN shipping at the company's expense. We do not need to be the world's policeman in this matter. A shipping company with a load of Russian tanks or $100 million in oil should be able to arrange their own security force or face the consequences.
