New Yorker Vets Obama Cover

MediaBistro:

Barry Blitt, the cartoonist responsible for the New Yorker's controversial terrorist fist-jabbing cover, among others, returns this week to "vet" Barack Obama. Of course this time around "Vetting" refers to the all important decision of picking a "first" puppy -- thus far we know they want a mutt, but that it needs to be hypoallergenic and won't be a girly dog.

This is the most adorable cartoon ever. I'm so happy that this issue is getting so much attention.

Cute cover... Bush should have such a smart looking cabinet. I hope the first family goes ahead and puts out the extra effort to find the right dog from a rescue organization. For almost every breed there is a rescue out there that has great dogs needing a forever home. Millions of dogs are put down every year in America's shelters. The Obamas could have a great impact on lowering this number by being seen picking up an animal from a shelter. And giving it a home. Quite a home. A big white one on Pennsylvania Avenue.

Also, this time a year remember animals are a poor choice for gifts. Again bango right into t he shelters.

Barack, get a Jack Russell, they are very smart, protective, and short haired so you don't suffer with allergic reactions!

Awesome cover. Although instead of Obama doing the interviewing, it should be the media. The media's fascination with the future Obama dog is ridiculous! It's probably gotten more attention than his future Cabinet.

I just love the expression on that grey dog's face. It remindes me of my beloved (but gone) dog. Such intelligence and love in those looks.

Where is the media?

This eligibility question won't go away.

There are so many prominent people involved, it would appear there is something to it.

What if it's a problem?

The implications are enormous.

The cover is great. Suggestion for a dog: Basenjis recommended for the allergic.

I agree with whit 4 brains who says, "I;m willing to bet that Michelle, Malia & Sasha pick out their dog."
Barack Obama does NOT strike me as a "ruler of the house" type of guy. Its always dangerous for people to take statements out of context (re: Barbara Walters remarks re: Havanese dogs as girly dogs.) He was joking with her.)
anyway, we all have or have had dogs posting here and dog people are the greatest. We all must hold our water, so to speak, re: the choice of dogs. and I believe there will be two. LOL

The main problem (IMO) with the 'fist jab' cartoon was that it required an explanation. If a cartoon or a joke requires THAT, it's simply not funny, or satirical. I was willing to accept the cartoonist's explanation for what his intent was...but, well there you go. Everyone has had the experience of listening to someone tell a joke so badly that they had to explain it. The 'fist jab' cartoon was just poorly done, nothing more...and too many people over-reacted to it. This one is at least worth a chuckle, but I honestly wish that O would just get on with selecting a dog and be done with it. He's spending more time on choosing this dog than on his cabinet.

Part of being a President OF ANY COLOR is taking the jabs from the cartoonist and comedians...
