Bush Gets First International Medal Of Peace

To mark World AIDS Day, Saddelback Pastor Rick Warren is hosting a Civil Forum on Global Health at the Newseum in Washington, D.C. Warren will present President Bush with the first "International Medal of PEACE" from the Global PEACE Coalition in recognition of his unprecedented contribution to the fight against HIV/AIDS and other diseases. The "International Medal of PEACE" is given for outstanding contribution toward alleviating the five global giants recognized by the Coalition, including pandemic diseases, extreme poverty, illiteracy, self-centered leadership and spiritual emptiness. The Bush administration reports that its AIDS initiative helped treat two million people living with HIV/AIDS.

What a farce. "Global PEACE Coalition" recognize leaders who work against "illiteracy, self-centered leadership and spiritual emptiness.­" couldn't have picked a less deserving recipient. It is an insult to all living things who have even one brain cell left.
Bush from what I remember did give $12B toward helping HIV/AIDS victims but 2/3 was specifically given to religious organizations to distribute so that they could prosyletize their dogma.

If Bush gets a medal for that, then IBM deserves a humanitarian medal for donating computers to my high school in order to get tax breaks.

A peace medal from Rick Warren and the Saddleback Church. That's right up there with the Nobel PEace Prize and the Academy Award. Bush is the biggest war-monger this nation has produced and he's getting a Peace medal? Also his faith-based abstinence programs that are part and parcel of our AIDS programs in undeveloped countries is a total waste of time and does nothing to prevent the spread of AIDS. Condoms and free needles saves lives, not a lot of crap about the virtues of celibacy.

This says as much about Warren as it does about Bush. I've never had a high opinion of Warren; it just got lower. He's as much a sham as Bush is.
