David Gregory

David Gregory will take the reins as moderator of NBC's "Meet the Press," the Huffington Post has learned. Gregory has been a leading contender for the permanent spot since Tom Brokaw stepped in as interim moderator following Tim Russert's death in June.

In recent weeks, a short list including Gregory, Andrea Michell, Gwen Ifill, and Chuck Todd had been considered the top candidates for the position, while Katie Couric and Ted Koppel were viewed as dark horses.

Brokaw will conclude his duties as interim moderator this weekend, when he will interview President-Elect Barack Obama.

NBC News did not immediately reply to a request for comment.

Update: NBC responded to Politico regarding this report, saying," I don't know where they are getting this. We have nothing to announce." Gregory's agent, when contacted by the New York Observer said he could neither confirm nor deny the report.

I actually liked the job that Tom Brokaw did in the interim.

It's good to see that I am not alone in this conclusion. He MUST BE related to someone.

Gwen Ifill is the best of that bunch, but I'm glad she will remain on PBS's NewsHour with the finest news coverage on television. You can learn more about an issue watching NewsHour than all of the cable news channels combined.

Picked by the process of Elimination...executives after a morning of drinking copious amounts of strong black coffee and wolfing down bran muffins have a sit down and pick out a grunt to head the political boot licking arm of the network.
Look who floated to the top of the bowl.

He's Boring Enough...He's Probably the Best Choice for That Show!

I don't see Gregory as biased just confused! I think this is a bad decision. Andrea Mitchell would have been a better choice although she is a right winger, I believe she calls it as she sees it. Rachel although Green would have been a better choice although she tries to hard to lean right or in the middle. She is a rising star! Best I've seen in a while. BAD CHOICE!

OMG he's such vanilla pudding.

MTP is toast.

How can someone so blatantly biased be given the plum of MTP? He is incapable of doing tough interviews with Republicans.

Plus, I will always remember his hour-long program, called (seriously), "What's wrong with Obama's campaign". (Needless to say, there never was a comparable program about McCain....)

That's exactly what turned me against him and his show. Each night it was always negativity about Obama and very little negative about McCain. He really showed his true colors and I cannot stand this man.

No one will ever be able to replace the late great Tim Russert, but I was hoping they would find someone with a bigger personality than David Gregory. The only person who came to my mind that could even come close was Rachel Maddow; but perhaps she is too controversial for the msm. The end of an era :-(

Just read the update that the reports are not confirmed. But I believe that he's gotten the job (no surprise). Meet The Press' ratings no doubt will go down.

David Gregory was very biased on his show "Race for the White House" and did not challenge guests when they said outrageous things. The magic of Tim Russert was that even if you new of his liberal, Democratic background, he kept it hidden on MTP. He succeeded in treating both sides the same. I have yet to see this from Gregory. I will give him a chance but if he does not change his methods of interviewing, I will watch something else....it will not be Stephanopolis, his questioning of Obama in one of the debates ( i.e. flag pins, Bill Ayers) turned me off to him forever. Not sure what I will watch on Sunday, tho, Blitzer bugs me, too.
