Obama Did Not Buy Michelle Rare Gold Ring, Says Spokesperson

UPDATE: The Obama camp flatly denies that Obama bought his wife Michelle a $33,000 rhodium ring as a thank you gift, according to The Chicago Sun Times. "'No ring was purchased,' said [Obama spokesperson Ben] LaBolt." The statement was made in response to a Daily Mail article claiming that he would.

Michelle Obama is to receive this £20,000 thank you from her husband for her support during the election.

The Harmony ring is made of rhodium - the world's most expensive metal --and encrusted with diamonds. It is being hastily made by Italian designer Giovanni Bosco in time for January's inauguration ceremony.

Only about 25 tons of rhodium are mined each year, mostly in South Africa, and as a result its price is typically around £5,000 an ounce.

What a wonderful gift! I would do the same for my wife after the hard work and sacrifices Michelle had to endure through that grueling campaign. They can afford it and it really is no one's business! It is not as if the campaign or the DNC is paying for it (Palin's wardrobe-RNC).

Guess what, true or fake, it's a damn beauty. And since they made their "own" money last year he can spend it on what he wants and if he does, she certainly deserves it. Okay, if the story is real, that's their business. He's not spending campaign funds to purchase the ring, he's using the money earned by their family, including the great deal of money he earned from writing his books.

The ring will last longer than their lives, it could be passed down to their daughters to wear on their wedding day or something. There's nothing wrong with Barack Obama spending his hard earned money on his wife.

And I can say as a "humble" person, I'd be knocked out of my socks if my husband were to give me something beautiful and made just for me as a token of appreciation. From a single-gal-living-in-a-recession's point of view, there's nothing wrong with that!!!!!!!
