Obama Did Not Buy Michelle Rare Gold Ring, Says Spokesperson

UPDATE: The Obama camp flatly denies that Obama bought his wife Michelle a $33,000 rhodium ring as a thank you gift, according to The Chicago Sun Times. "'No ring was purchased,' said [Obama spokesperson Ben] LaBolt." The statement was made in response to a Daily Mail article claiming that he would.

Michelle Obama is to receive this £20,000 thank you from her husband for her support during the election.

The Harmony ring is made of rhodium - the world's most expensive metal --and encrusted with diamonds. It is being hastily made by Italian designer Giovanni Bosco in time for January's inauguration ceremony.

Only about 25 tons of rhodium are mined each year, mostly in South Africa, and as a result its price is typically around £5,000 an ounce.

I saw this on the "D" site and I just don't believe it. He is to smart to have a story like this get out when our economy is in the toilet and most American families are struggling. I smell something fishy about this story. If it is true, it is no one's business. He certainly has a right to buy his wife a gift. Also, they have the money to afford it. Still, I doubt this is true.

I'd imagine that PE Obama would be more cautious about buying diamonds. He'd specify that they were conflict free. This doesn't sound accurate.

In my opinion, it's an ugly ring. That said, I don't think it's any of our business if he wants to give her an extra special gift and since he has the financial means to do so, then there should be no fuss. I doubt the story is legit, but again, I don't think it's that big of a deal. Anyone remember Cindy McCain's $300,000 outfit she wore to the RNC? I mean really! What do you think John is getting her for Christmas? Does anyone care?

If Michelle's Christmas present is a long night of hot, sweaty, body-bumpin, good old-fashioned loving, then no, it won't be leaked to the press. But they most likely do that all the time so it wouldn't really a Christmas present, in the traditional sense.

For some reason, I don't see PE Obama "anouncing" his intentions. He's a very astute man and if these are his true intentions, I would think it would be a surprise for Michelle. Jeweler man, I think you are trying to make big money using the "Obama" name. And if you aren't, why would you spoil Michelle's wonderful surprise? Women don't like that. Learn something.
