Clinton

Washington Post:

Leaving the news conference in Chicago yesterday where he introduced his national security team, President-elect Obama strolled out of the room arm in arm with his choice for secretary of state and one-time rival, Hillary Rodham Clinton. The gesture may have been a subtle indication that Obama is aware that one of the biggest questions about his choice of Clinton is the kind of relationship they will be able to forge in the months ahead.

Many of the most successful secretaries of state, though not all, enjoyed great influence with the presidents they served, giving them crucial leverage with foreign leaders and inside the national security establishment. But Obama and Clinton are only starting to develop the kind of rapport that could lead to that trust, and the ultimate success of the senator from New York in her new role may depend as much on Obama's willingness to admit her to his inner circle as her ability to master the intricacies of the Middle East peace process or North Korea's nuclear weapons program, according to senior foreign policy officials from past administrations.

Morning all, just had my coffee. Any news on the Woowoo front? What are they talking about today?

Ah. Well, I should assist in this. I took Latin for six years. It's not as useless as it appears.

However, the translation of the Iliad was a chore.

I'm a 21 year old guy who has a shameless crush on Hillary, I just love her and yeah I love Obama too.

Can't all progressives just kiss and move on? There is a country out there to fix.

Will they get along?

Who cares? Hillary works for Obama now. It's all on her. If they don't get along, he can fire her on a moment's notice.

If he fires her he'll be sure to be running against another "Team of Rivals" in 2012 - "The Hillary & Bill Team"

Big whoop. Ask yourself how many times an incumbant president has lost the primary race.

Johnson might have lost, but he withdrew.

You have to wonder if this is the result of some kind of pre-convention deal between the Obama and Clinton campaigns. I am a big fan of Obama but I think he's making a big mistake here. The Clintons (yeah BOTH) are going to go off and do their own foreign policy. Does anyone really doubt this?

Yes, this isnt first grade. These are incredibly serious times and a very dangerous world. The Clintons are both patriots who love this country and will not do anything just for the sake of messing with Obama.

To suggest anything different is juvenile.

Millions of people doubt it. How would they make their own foreign policy? How would they accomplish anything if not approved by the President? Who would pay for their rogue covert diplomatic endeavors?

Their own foreign policy huh? What? For their own private country?

Would they just don spy cloths, rent a private jet and run around the globe making policy for and about what? Jeeze, don't you think one thought through? What you're suggesting is patently absurd.

Has anyone else here noticed that women in politics always get tagged with the labels "whiner" and "drama?" These labels apply to women on both sides of the aisle. It really is true -- women are judged so much harsher than men.

I agree. Also, have we ever had so many headlines about whether two "A" type male personalities in politics will get along? All of a sudden, one of the personalities involves a woman and the media all but makes it a catfight. Sexism at work IMHO.

Favorite    Flag as abusive Posted 08:49 AM on 12/02/2008

There's nothing to see here except media folk with nothing to write about trying to make a story out of nothing.

Move along.

Bill Clinton is a genius. CNN.com is reporting they may name him to replace Hillary in the NY Senate Seat. That gives him a platform for the rest of his life to be a thorn in Obama's side and republicans too. Hillary, now Sec of State, will either be done in 4 or 8 years, depending on if Obama is re-elected, while Bill can stay in the Senate for the rest of his life as he will be easily reelected. The man is the ultimate politican!

Blue, you are right, I just read the exchange over on page 4: man, did you ever get to him. That's the first time I've ever seen him use the MF phrase. What a setup.

Re: his new moniker 'Pure786'. We all know that he's a drama queen. E.g. if someone so much as tells him to scram, his reply will be 'THE MELTDOWN', as if the person who said it was hysterical (when they were not even mildly upset). But now, with this new moniker, we know that he is really suffering from delusions of importance. 'Pure786' has the feel of something like 'Pure Gold' (e.g. those radio stations that play nothing but old songs). Apparently, what we are getting now is undistilled Za, and we should be grateful!

He said last week that "786" refers to God.

Personally I think it stands for the area code for Miami Dade county.

Note that instead work on the economy for Main Street, we get this instead---all about war.

Not one word or proposed action to save the economy 'out here' in the hustings, but instead, volumes about 'the world and war.

This is very GOP -like: ignoring the nation's population but worrying instead, and spending huge staff time hours on global issues. Bush Sr. was all about this too. So was W.

This is not change, its a throwback to GOP days with a twist of Clinton. At best, Obama is an Eisenhower Democrat. Watch how fast he turns his back on those who supported him 'on the ground' and realize---his campaign used the public, so now, here we are.

And a military appointee as National Security Adviser? Right out of "24." I know: We're part of a new TV series!

What we see is what we get: Obama has turned his back on the ideas and people he appealed to during the campaign. We have a war cabinet, no better than W could have put together.

Bomb, Bomb, Bomb.....Bomb Iran.

In this episode of HRC 90201 Hillary gives her SOS acceptance speech with Obama looking on from three paces to her behind left - everything seems fine on the surface but there's an unspoken tension that fills the air - Dr. Susan Rice appears ambivalent to the whole matter, but it is clear that she is jealous of the attention that Hillary is getting, and she silently vows to get even, somehow, someway - Bill looks on stage right, but just who is he looking on?

With all of this “Team of Rivals” talk and Lincoln-esque praise, it should be noted that the infighting during Lincoln’s first term was so bad that his government was on the brink of destruction. In addition, of the top four “rivals” that Lincoln appointed to his cabinet, only one survived the first term.
