NEW YORK — Rush Limbaugh has seldom been a fan of Senator Hillary Rodham Clinton. But the conservative radio pundit has given his blessing to her selection as the next secretary of state.

He calls it "a brilliant stroke" by President-elect Barack Obama, who opposed Clinton for the Democratic nomination.

Limbaugh weighs in on the new administration as one of Barbara Walters' "10 Most Fascinating People of 2008," which airs Thursday on ABC.

Says Limbaugh: "You know the old phrase, 'You keep your friends close and your enemies closer?' How can she run for president in 2012? She'd have to run against the incumbent and be critical of him _ the one who made her secretary of state."

On Monday, Obama announced Clinton as his nominee for secretary of state.

I guess Rush couldn't try to whip up "PUMAS" and then turn around and say she didn't deserve a White House job. Looks like he's managed to make himself a unwilling cheerleader of Obama's leadership.

what a stupid thing for Limbaugh to say... I don't think anyone in their right mind thought that hillary may be a contender for 2012... that is clearly not a reason for making her Secretary of State

just the stupidest thing i've heard... why is this man even on tv spewing this junk to millions?

Actually, that's one of the few non-stupid things he's said recently. It WAS brilliant for Obama to make Hillary SecState. She is smart, tough, and already personally acquainted with a large number of the foreign dignitaries she'll be dealing with from day to day, and...

...as much as it pains me to agree with Rush Limbaugh, he's right. There is no way Hillary can try to unseat Obama in 2012 without looking like a backstabbing witch, and that wouldn't go over well with voters.

I am not surprised to hear from El Rushbo he have to keep pace with whats happening now. His attemp to derail the election did not work. Maybe he has been enlighten but i dought that. Rush will
continue to feed his followers the junk thy thrive on and get payed top dollars for doing so.

Has anyone noticed how the righties seem to be softening? They got their asses handed to them in the election, and, wanting to stay employed by the powers that be, are sidling up to the Democrats.

Hannity is the exception. He is still stupidly spouting the same garbage. Hannity, at the base of it, is just not too bright.

But Limbaugh - he has been so outrageous, slanted and even bigoted in his pronouncements over the years, why is Huffington giving him this platform of respectability?

I don't think they have the stamina to keep up the negativity for the next 4years or else they would be seen as the mob who are hindering America's progress and they can't afford to isolate themselves anymore than they already have.

So expect them to disagree quietly and politely.

It's like when the tech bubble burst. Too much too soon, too much growth, then implosion.

There was a glut of conservative media hosts. Now there is no golden idol for them to worship. Conservative media is a victim of their own success.

The Repubs in my neighborhood (still solidly displaying their McCain stickers on their SUVs) are hardly softening. Their watching their 401K tank and still blaming ACORN.

It's OK--he'll be saying just the opposite in about 3 weeks, and none of his dittoheads will even notice, much less call him on it.

How would anyone know what that lying blabber mouth means? The only people who believe him are the naive who are followers of Rt Wing, Repub and Fox opportunists. Great if that would stop the naive followers from writing stupid letters to Editors and mouthing everything their "great leaders" say.

who cares what that hack has to say about anything? Like Palin, just let him wallow in his ignorance and fall off the airwaves.

20 million + people care what he says. That is quite a number wether you like him or not!

Yeah and Jerry Springer had been on the air for over a decade now, so the fact that 20 million (that's the number they use and they are sticking with it-although I am sure it is much less) may listen proves absolutely nothing about his "influence". It just proves people love to watch a train wreck that's about it.

No accounting for taste.
