Tom Cruise is denying that he pressured Amazon to stop selling a book critical of the Church of Scientology.

On Oct. 31, Irish publisher Merlin released "The Complex," in which John Duignan, identified as "a former high-ranking member" of the church in Britain, describes his "dramatic escape" from its "elite para-military group," the Sea Organization. Five days later, Cruise dropped by Amazon's Seattle headquarters to glad-hand staffers and host a sneak peek at his new movie, "Valkyrie."

A few days later, Amazon's British Web site stopped selling "The Complex," explaining to customers that someone mentioned in the book had alleged it defamed him with "false claims."

I like you Tom. I don't care if you believe in Scientology. That is your personal choice. We are in america and we all have freedom of religion. I still think you are a great actor. That movie about Hitler doesn't look all that great(They're are bigger problems than Hitler). It would be nice to see you coming out in a nice romantic movie sort of like Jerry McGuire. I like you as a contemporary actor. I'm tired of your blockbuster movies. They are getting somewhat boring. If you come out with a beautiful movie, I will definetely pay money to see it. But I am kind of tired of violent movies.

More of the same tyrannical cult think from Mr. Cruise. Though I have to admit, he was hilarious in ''Tropic Thunder'' as a tyrannical producer. Maybe someday he could play a hilarious, tyrannical cult leader.....

No fan of Scientology... or any other religion for that matter. But there are a variety of scams out there preying on the weak of mind...

Oh well.

One question. Does anyone who sits here in judgement of Tom Cruise believe they are happier, more successful, wealthier, more capable, more powerful or more intelligent than him?

By your earlier posts, you have indicated that you have been a practicing scientologist for the past ten years. Let me ask you this. How much money have you spent on this cult during that time? More importantly, what percentage of your income goes to this cult each year? Are you driving a new car? Do you own a home? What level have you reached in this cult? Are you clear? Are you OT? Are you aware that all the "secret OT levels" are available for free over the internet? Do you still buy into the belief that looking at this material now will cause you physical harm? Answer these and I'll answer your question.

Tommy may be all of those--for the sake of argument--but that is equally consistent w/Scietolgy being an insidious cult--or the path to xenu-heaven

There cannot be anything false on it as it is openly on sale in Ireland and we have very strict defamation laws.

The difference is that Britain is so corrupt that if you have money and power you can silence truthful free speech.

I agree. They were Bush's lackey in the invasion in Iraq and probably helped spread the lie.

"The Scientology organisation has a lengthy track record of litigation and censorship. Earlier this year, the Scientology organisation threatened to sue online magazine Gawker for posting an embarrassing video of Tom Cruise extolling the virtues of Scientology.[4] In 2006, Tom Cruise prevented the airing of a rerun of the "South Park" episode, "Trapped In The Closet," which poked fun at the actor and Scientology.[5] Journalist Paulette Cooper was subject to a similar campaign of intimidation. Cooper wrote a critical book, "The Scandal of Scientology", in 1971. Cooper proceeded to face harassment by the Scientology organisation, and was even framed for bomb threats by the organisation itself, through a campaign Scientology called "Operation Freakout."[6]"

The above is copied from an e-mail by Anonymous, an anti-Scientology group.

Is she the one who got the poisonous snake in the mailbox? Or was that yet someone else who was threatened by the cult?

T.C. has bigger things to worry about.

The trailer for Valkryrie played before Quantum of Solace a people in the audience were laughing. Given that the Tom Cruise flick isn't a comedy, that's not a good thing. This film could be the next Battlefield Earth.

Count on it. Early word is, it's a complete disaster. Might even sink him as head of United Artists for good.

As ColoradoDan posted - check out Operation Clambake http://www.xenu.net/ - which exposes the deceptions of Scientology. Their message board has some recent postings about the book.

Good for John Duignan and other book sellers, all this publicity will no doubt increase sales and readership of the book, and hopefully prevent some needy people from succumbing to the lure of the scientology sales pitch.

Google Cruise and Scientology and while the "church" pays for a top of the page placement, there are 10's of thousands of highly critical websites about him and his pet religion. He may be able to beat Amazon in Great Britain, but he can't beat "the Google".

You know what I don't get? Where do they find rich people who are clueless enough to get suckered in these days? Who hasn't seen Cruise acting a fool and thought no way in hell?

You need to ask that question to Raising Awareness.

At least Scientology has the word "Science" in it. Even if used incorrectly.
