Fey

Tina Fey graces the cover of the January issue of Vanity Fair, and in an interview with Fey and her husband Jeff Richmond inside, her distinctive facial scar is finally explained as a random childhood slashing.

From the NY Post, which got an early look at the article:

...she and hubby Jeff Richmond note she's never talked publicly about a mystery slashing incident, which happened when she was 5.

"It was in, like, the front yard of her house, and some body just came up, and she just thought somebody marked her with a pen," Richmond says.

The "30 Rock" star has refused to discuss the scar. "It's impossible to talk about it without somehow seemingly exploiting it," she says.

The AP has more on Fey's scar from VF:

Says Richmond: "That scar was fascinating to me. This is somebody who, no matter what it was, has gone through something. And I think it really informs the way she thinks about her life."

Fey says talking about the attack would seem like exploiting it.

Says Fey: "It's really almost like I'm able to forget about it, until I was on-camera, and it became a thing of `Oh, I guess we should use this side' or whatever. Everybody's got a better side."

She also talks about her parents:

"I grew up in a family of Republicans. And when I was 18 and registering to vote, my mom's only instruction was 'You just go in and pull the big Republican lever.' That's my welcome to adulthood. She's like, 'No, don't even read it. Just pull the Republican lever."' (Fey made a call to arrange for Richmond's excited Republican parents and sister to meet Palin at a rally in Erie, Pennsylvania.)

My late Republican parents raised 4 Democrats. My father used to joke that he was canceling out my vote, but even he knew, the numbers were against him. As a left wing Dem, sometimes I'll have a not so nice thought when I find out someone's a Republican. Then I think of my parents. They were the greatest people. They raised 4 "think for yourself children". They always voted socially liberal, but just couldn't get over the government out of your business aspect. I like to imagine they would have voted for Obama though because they HATED racism.

I can totally empathize with having Repubican parents. When I was 18 and registering to vote for the first time, my parents said, "just vote Republican". I know better now :)

Neither did I. I think she is very pretty. Scar or no scar.

I don't like the Tina Fey cover. I've always admired her for not hootching herself out like everyone else in Hollywood and actually getting attention for her humor and her brains. I don't want her to go the route of Pink who criticized or made fun of the Hollywood shallow girls and then joined their party.

Thank you Tina Fey for helping save America from the McCain/Palin ticket. You've done a noble thing, though funny it was.

She is so lovely, both physically and in terms of how she moves through the world- I've never heard of her behaving badly, speaking gratuitous ill or being willfully unkind.
The lady is a class act.

I wish they would explain how she lost all that weight when she was a writer at SNL. Seriously, like 30 pounds or something - that is more fasinating to me than some mystery scar.

It's funny to think of her as sexy...but to each his own!

Thanks for Tina! I think she singlehandedly helped most Americans decide who to vote for in the last election and rightly so. Thank you Tina and thank you SNL!!!

I like Tina Fey and all, but is having Hollywood or SNL or whomever helping to decide whom you will vote for exactly a commendable thing, shouldn't it be a bit more personal and thought out by the individual voter? I'm proud to say that NEITHER Chuck Norris nor Alec Baldwin helped determine my vote.

And there's no left wing bias on TV??

No bias, just easily made fun of clowns in the Republican party.

Don't worry, Tina. That little line just makes you sexier!

Cheers.

Tina is a total goddess. She is the total package of brains, beauty, and bravery for being willing to face the world, in this age of imagery, with a facial scar. Most women on TV would've gone to the plastic surgeon's office. But Tina just said, "Meh"!! I love her moxie and talent. Brava

What's ironic is that today's parents will repeat her Mother's Mantra and just replace it with a Democrat Lever. Both panderings have created the crapper we currently stew in.

Go Tina! I understand some scars now.. I am a veteran of life!
They do give distinguished character, so don't let anybody change it. It's uniquely yours.

I think the scar just adds to her character. She can tell everyone that it's the a sword inflicted scar she got while fencing. Then all she would have to do is wear a monocle to go along with it. She would be soooo cool.
