Fey

Tina Fey graces the cover of the January issue of Vanity Fair, and in an interview with Fey and her husband Jeff Richmond inside, her distinctive facial scar is finally explained as a random childhood slashing.

From the NY Post, which got an early look at the article:

...she and hubby Jeff Richmond note she's never talked publicly about a mystery slashing incident, which happened when she was 5.

"It was in, like, the front yard of her house, and some body just came up, and she just thought somebody marked her with a pen," Richmond says.

The "30 Rock" star has refused to discuss the scar. "It's impossible to talk about it without somehow seemingly exploiting it," she says.

The AP has more on Fey's scar from VF:

Says Richmond: "That scar was fascinating to me. This is somebody who, no matter what it was, has gone through something. And I think it really informs the way she thinks about her life."

Fey says talking about the attack would seem like exploiting it.

Says Fey: "It's really almost like I'm able to forget about it, until I was on-camera, and it became a thing of `Oh, I guess we should use this side' or whatever. Everybody's got a better side."

She also talks about her parents:

"I grew up in a family of Republicans. And when I was 18 and registering to vote, my mom's only instruction was 'You just go in and pull the big Republican lever.' That's my welcome to adulthood. She's like, 'No, don't even read it. Just pull the Republican lever."' (Fey made a call to arrange for Richmond's excited Republican parents and sister to meet Palin at a rally in Erie, Pennsylvania.)

Tina Fey is attractive but she is not objectified by most because of her humor, wit and intelligence. Her sexuality is part of her too, so why are some complaining that an entertainer is showing off her beauty along with her other great qualities?

Her confidence, in spite of that unfortunate scar, makes her even more appealing. It does not define her. She soldiers on.

Some of her funniest and shockingest bits of dialog were straight verbatim quotes from Palin's "interviews".

How bored do you have to be to type "yawn" in response to a comment? If you're so very bored, then don't respond at all.

OK, is it just me, or is there something perverse in the fact that a woman who made headlines for making fun of a bimbo running for office decides to pose as a bimbo for the cover of Vanity Fair? And why is it OK for liberals to refer to Fey as "hottie material," "smokin hot," etc., but sexist for Bill Kristol to fawn over Palin and for Republican delegates to call themselves "Hoosiers for the hot chick"?

I wish we weren't so quick to fall (not in just this but in all ways) into the dumb-ass monster-truck thought patterns of our political rivals. Fey is a good-looking woman, but that's just part of her identity. Shame she felt she had to get over her "smart" image, or whatever was going through her head, by letting it hang out on the magazine cover. Shame that every female pop star thinks she has to pose half naked to get attention. Believe me, women, we ain't equal yet.

It's just you. :)

Or, let me put it this way: it's not me. I think it's fine for people to fawn over anyone they want, including Palin. Hot is hot.

The problem with Palin was that she had nothing to offer besides her alleged hotness. She couldn't even hold an unscripted interview. She thought Africa was a freakin' country. And on and on.

Whereas Fey is an incisive, talented, smart woman who's both a great writer and a great comedienne.

So, I don't see Fey at all getting over her smartness by showing her hotness. I think being hot and smart is incredibly more attractive than being just hot. So I don't see how she can't happily show both.

Obama and The Daily Kos grassroots / Howard Dean militancy were really the antidotes to them; because THEY embody what the Left is suppose to stand for. Not the ' V a g i n a monologues' , but Equality, Freedom, Dignity and Social Justice for everyone. This was what won this elections, and it's what has made people like Tina Fey irrelevant. The cultural myopia of the Clinton '90s has come to pass, along with the extreme Right whose ' moral ascendency ' has fed off it . ' Coz it's progressivism now; which has a better, more profound ring in the ears. Let us be vigilant in maintaining this transformative victory throughout his administration.

Which is exactly the reason I h a t ed the Clintonite side of neoliberalism. The sort who lie so further into the center, that the only thing separating them from the Right is the s e x . Apart from aborton, and gay marriage, and p o r n, they've got nothing else going for them; and they'd probably try obleterate Iran anyway. It's front and center of their agenda and limited identity - as they've repeatedly been felled politically through it . From Kennedy to Clinton to Condit, to Eliot Spitzer. You could understand such claptrap from that light.

I don't think anyone has repelled more people from ' liberalism ' than they have, and it shows. The 2004 Kerry vote looked more a vote for their abscess. We can only tolerate so much.

yawm... waits for Fey to go back into obscurity where she was before the Palin bits. Calling her a comedian is insult to the profession. she's merely a impersonator.

No, she is not an impersonator. She didn't want to do Palin BECAUSE she was not an impersonator. That is what was so genius about the part. Don't hate!

Tina is a beautiful person and her comedy is a gift for all of us....

Still I can't help wondering why anybody would harm a five year old child like that...

But at the same time I guess it's better to think that Tina survived beautifully and thrived despite that heinous act....

You go girl....Best of Luck!....

What's the difference between Palin and Fey?
Fey proved she can easily fake "plastic" Palin -
Palin can not even begin to be pretend to be intelligent, as Fey actually is.

Tina Fey is SO D@MN HOT!!! Most men want to jump her bones....most Women want to be her....AND then jump her bones...the rest of them are content just to watch...
