SEDALIA, Mo. — A hunter bagged a big buck on the second day of firearms season, but the kill caused him a lot of pain. Randy Goodman, 49, said he thought two well-placed shots with his .270-caliber rifle had killed the buck on Nov. 19. Goodman said the deer looked dead to him, but seconds later the nine-point, 240-pound animal came to life.

The buck rose up, knocked Goodman down and attacked him with his antlers in what the veteran hunter called "15 seconds of hell." The deer ran a short distance and went down, and died after Goodman fired two more shots.

Soon Goodman started feeling dizzy and noticed his vest was soaked in blood.

So he reached his truck and drove to a hospital, where he received seven staples in his scalp and was treated for a slight concussion and bruises.

Hey I don't hunt myself because I just don't like to kill things, but y'all don't seem to have a clue about this do you? Because I am a major wildlife advocate , I support hunting.
First off , deer hunters eat what they kill. Hunting is not anywhere near as cruel as having animals raised for meat. While the animals killed by hunters have a violent death, they generally live good lives. Do you eat store bought meat? Do you have any idea the conditions that those animals live under?
Secondly, do y'all realize how much wildlife habitat is protected by hunters? Destruction of habitat is the single biggest threat to wild animals.Hunters are huge on habitat conservation which in the long run helps animals far more than hurting them (maybe not individually, but as a total population). As long as they follow SOUND WILDLIFE MANAGEMENT PRACTICES, they do a whole lot of good for the environment.
There is more I could say about this subject but I will leave it at that

Randy Goodman and Sarah Palin could both do with less testosterone

To a lot of posters on here, it doesn't seem to register that pre-packaged, plastic-wrapped meat at the supermarket was once a live animal. Is the guy working at the slaughterhouse cowardly too? Or is he just doing his job? Where do you think your shoes came from?

How about facing the actual impact you have in this world? Or at least not pointing your scorn to those that are willing to face up to it. We're part of a food chain. That's just life on planet earth.

Here in Northern Florida the deer are hunted in hunting camps, actual fenced in acreage. They have no where to run. Really sporting, eh?

I can't wait until deer evolve rifles and shotguns for antlers. More bang for your buck.

No need to arm bears. Just make the sniveling, cowardly hunters try to ki.ll them with their own hands only. I'd pay good money to see that...

Then make the hunters hunt with knifes only.

Better yet, with their hands only. I bet the "sportsmen" suddenly will not feel "sporty" anymore. I wish every hunter tried to ki.ll a healthy buck with his bare hands and face the consequences... Better yet, a lion or a Grizzly bear...

It's too bad the deer didn't have a firearm to make the fight more even, fair and balanced.

they kind of do have firearms or at least protection around here. we have 400 acres, all blazed & posted. no hunting, fishing, trespassing, soliciting. i've told all the locals & pretty much everyone in town knows that my land is a protected zone. my small house is where i have my workshop & because it's isolated, i have a small handgun there. it's also in the middle of an apple orchard so we have tons of deer, turkeys, coyotes, moose & a bear. we also have illegal hunters & jacklighters. i see or hear them, i've got NO problem firing over their heads. neither do the local cops.

I hope those who are outraged by hunting are even more outraged and motivated to do something about the commercialized meat industry. Meat-eaters aren't going away anytime soon, and certainly not in our lifetime. Those who love animals may want to consider concentrating their energy on supporting ranchers who raise their herd holistically (no hormones, grass-fed, free-range, etc). It is also important to support a "slow-food" movement to help reduce gluttony and the overwhelming demand for so much meat. The societal white-washing of the life that was taken for one's meat and unthinking, rampant consumption is the root of the problem.

Personally, I eat meat (mainly fish, but some poultry, wild game, and grass-fed beef) but infrequently. I've also hunted in the past. My family are traditional hunters, not "sport" hunters. They have a deep respect for life and give thanks for the gift from nature. Some find hunting 'uncivilized and barbaric', and I respect the right to their opinion. There is nothing I can say to change their mind, nor would I want to. Not all share the same ethical worldview on what constitutes "humane" -- just as not all agree on pro-choice versus pro-life, death penalty versus indefinite imprisonment, military intervention versus pacifism, or euthanasia for the terminally ill. These are serious ethical questions that should never be taken lightly and it is productive to have a mature and civil debate to rectify what should constitute a societal compromise.

"My family are traditional hunters, not "sport" hunters."

"Traditional" hunters are those who ki.ll animals because otherwise they would starve. That applies, for example, to the Inuit hunting for seals, polar bears and whales with TRADITIONAL TOOLS (i.e. no guns.) These people risk their lives and the animals always have a chance of surviving.

Anyone else hunts for **ENTERTAINMENT.** That's a FACT you can spend an eternity trying to deny, but it will always remain a FACT.

It's only a fact in your world. As soon as new technology was available, the indigenous people made use of them. You don't take a whale with a rifle because it would be futile. The Inuit do use rifles, as do the Ojibway of Canada.

At least wolves only take the weak, sick and young whereas men go for the biggest most successful, most valuable to the herd. That is why we have spike hunts here to save the largest one to mate again and again, improving the herd.

All of you have it wrong; this was nothing but a domestic dispute that got way out of hand. Both were long standing members of the North American Man-Deer Love Association (NAMDLA).
