"Impeach Bush" Ornament Accepted To Hang On White House Christmas Tree

When Deborah Lawrence got the invitation from the White House, the Seattle-based artist decided to make a lefty political statement.

But she never expected it would hang on the official Christmas tree.

Laura Bush asked members of Congress to pick local painters to decorate ornaments for this year's 20-foot Fraser fir in the Blue Room. The globes (to be unveiled by the first lady tomorrow) are supposed to showcase something special about each congressional district. Washington state's Rep. Jim McDermott contacted a local arts organization, which asked Lawrence, a collage artist, to create the local entry.

Of course Bush didn't read it. That's far too much text for him to handle in one sitting. And Laura Bush is merely the hostess at the White House. But you can bet somebody will get in trouble for letting that ornament slip through. Glad it did, though. Because it made the news, and more people need to talk about what to do with Bush once he's out of office. I say:

Interesting parallel: Her ornament has a lot of words on it, only a few of which deal with impeachment.
The impeachment part slipped through because no one read the whole thing - just like how pork-laden riders (and worse) are slipped into our bills! Wooden arrows anyone? Here's where we need some nerds in government: they would read every line!

The artist is just representing the people of her state - as did her representative. Good for her. The White House staff obviously didn't lay down any rules, and didn't bother to look at the finished products. Too bad for them. But good for the rest of us - at least we know there's still room for free speech in Bush's White House.

If she's an artist that does political satire and McDermott supported the impeachment proposal, and they wanted something to represent the district, then what's the big deal?

Heck, even W. knows he should've been impeached. He's crying in his beer now trying to get all of us to feel sorry for him.

But seriously, if it is in fact divisive, it is probably because we have been so well coached for the last 8 years and just can't help it.
