Kate Winslet and Leonardo DiCaprio have done steamy onscreen sex scenes together before, but for their upcoming film Revolutionary Road, they had to pair up in front of Winslet's director-husband, Sam Mendes.

"I had a total meltdown," Winslet said at New York City's Times Center on Monday. "Sam was there lining the scene up. I'd get things like, 'Press your hands into his back! No, his back!' You just have to deal with it. Leo was remarkably fine with the whole thing."

Mendes, who joined his wife for the TimesTalks conversation about Revolutionary Road, called the scene "a profoundly weird experience" but said Winslet was very professional.

Then afterwards Sam, Kate and Leo left the set and went and filmed a home movie together. It's nice when everyone gets along so well. :)

I'm sure that as a preeminent film and stage director, Mendes was looking at the scene in a personally detached manner: Scene 141, Take 6. The Mendes-Winslet union is strong enough not to get rattled by nonexistent jealousy. To actors these scenes can be emotional, but it's a job. Demi Moore years ago said some of her love scene costars get excited, some don't, and both reactions are acceptable.

One of them must have been Rob Lowe, who was her lover in "About Last Night". That was a hot scene.

Who wouldn't have a total melt down filming love scenes with Leo. It's understandable. He's absolutely beautiful.

I agree - he is truly outstandingly beautiful. I would give anything just to have the opportunity with him. I believe strongly that between both Leo, and Kate alone -this movie will do exceedingly well and will succeed like no other..

Unless you are some sort of person who lives in a bottle until you meet only the one person you will marry, everyone has had other romantic relationships and unless you are exceedingly dumb or in utter denial any human being should know this.

It might not be easy to watch the person you love make-out with another person, but on a movie set where it is exceeding clear it's all pretend, I would think Sam Mendes pretty much would know it's a pretend thing. That's the whole point of movies, to pretend these two people are 'passionately' in love with one another.

I never thought Kate and Leo were a good match in "Titanic", but it was still a good movie overall. It wouldn't stop me from going to see them in this film, though unless there's a wow factor to see something on the big screen I usually wait to watch them on DVD.

Those two are a 'hot' ticket. Loved them in Titanic and will see this one.

Kate looks great. The best I've ever seen her. With all the love scenes included in movies these days I see why Kirk Cameron chose not to do those early in his career. They even put one in Pearl Harbor and it negated the historical significance of what could've been a great movie. They put love scenes in just about every horror movie. Why?

Actors can say what they want but to be buck naked in bed, on top of someone and playing a love scene, you can't tell me no emotion is involved in that. I couldn't put my spouse thru that.
Plus, all that french kissing, I would have a clause in my contract. Who knows where some of them have had their tongues. Yuck!

Harriet, people today would think that what you had to go through in your life was icky sometimes, too.

Like that whole Underground Railroad thing.

Nah, I'm just goshing.

LOL. I did read where some actresses now have clauses in their contracts about all that tongue kissing. They kiss like they did in the 50s and 60s, just a closed mouth.

My profession requires me to keep up with people's health habits and the stuff I've been reading regarding sexual tastes these days I'd prefer to keep my tongue in my own mouth :-)

French kissing? In what movie? Most love scenes in movies are completely unnatural, and robotic, most actors do not open mouth kiss in these scenes.
