I Like ItI Don’t Like It

As Obama was leaving Philadelphia, kids from Friends Select, a Quaker school across the street from his hotel, gathered at the gates.

An agent stood near the kids, who after about 15 minutes of waiting started chanting "Obama! Obama!"

When he came out of the hotel Obama crossed the street wearing a big grin. He shook hands and chatted with the kids for about a minute, smiling the whole time.

The kids jumped up and down and cheered. He shook a few hands through the bars of the gate.

Watch:

This man is a Daddy AND a President.
We have gotten to know him as a Son, a Grandson, a Brother, a Son In Law, and a Brother and a Brother In Law, as well as an Uncle.
For all of his "exotic" upbringing, he seems more authentic in his family roles than most.
Maybe, he is just more "authentic" than most.
I am going to just love having Grandma in the White House.

And we've adopted his entire family. There is a personal and emotional investment in their well being. Hope Secret Service takes very good care of them.

Can anyone remind me if there was anything like this even in the "heady" days after 9/11 for Bush?

I was just about the age of these children (11/12 years old) when JFK was elected POTUS and we kids reacted the same way to his election. I can still remember the excitement. To be truthful, this is the first time since the 1960 election I have seen this type of reaction to a POTUS among the younger set. This brings back good memories. God bless America.

This gives me goose bumps, I too was a kid when JFK was shot- so let's not compare the two please.

Isn't there some saying about the perception of children being "all knowing" ?

Man, what an incredible experience for those kids. Sure hope Obama was inspired to improve their school.

I love our new President.

It's very refreshing to see kids inspired by a president-elect, and not just sports figures! In that respect, Obama is important to more than just the aspirations of African-American kids. He is a reminder to ALL children that politicians can be someone to be looked up to...if they behave like they deserve that admiration and respect.

Sadly, many politicians give the word "politician" a bad reputation, particularly those most in the news during this administration! Perhaps Obama can help to turn that around...to remind those possible politicians of the future that it's not a bad aspiration to want to be a politician, but it's all in WHY you do it, and how you behave in the role.

Think about it. When was the last time we had a president that inspired so many with so much joy and pride? In the long haul I doubt that I will agree with every decision he makes but that is not the point. What we’ve got is a wise man who we can trust to do his best for the nation and we can’t ask for more than an honest and worthy effort.

I’m even seeing pride and smiles on the faces of friends who voted for the other guy! When we think back to all the trash talk thrown at Obama in the election it just seems so foolish now. Play this clip next to the “terrorist fist-bump” from Fox news fame...

What we are seeing is a re-birth of mutual respect. People and kids respect our president elect and he returns the favor.

Actually, they were protecting the kids as well. When there is a security situation, you don't want the crowd to be hurt either. This school is in downtown Philly on a busy street.

We live just blocks from this school, which my son attends. Every time Barack Obama has come to Philly this year he has stayed at the hotel across the street from Friends Select School. Each visit has been a thrill for students, parents, teachers and administrators alike. He is an inspiration to people of all generations. This is the first time he's visited as President-elect, and we hope he will make many more visits as President. This is urban living at its best!

I was watching a show on CSPAN discussing the 2008 election and the issue was whether Obama could have won if he didnt have all that money. This guy said that he believes that part of reason why he won is that Americans for the last 8 years didnt like what they sa when the looked into the mirror and now you can feel that there is something different in the country the excitement of these children lets you know there is something different there is a feeling in the air. They are not too young to figure it out. They get it and even they can feel the hope.

He has certainly taken the younger people by storm. Not just those old enough to vote, but little kids and pre-teens and teenagers. It's wonderful to hear them talk about all his ideas and take an interest in the world they live in. I saw a 3 year old in a mall the other day point to the TV with a huge grin on his face and say "BAMA!"

He may not have won if he didn't have all that money, but lets not forget we gave him all that money because we wanted him to win.

I keep trying to remember the response Bush received - from the very young to the very old - when he was elected both times to the presidency. The memory escapes me. All I can recall is that it was very, very quiet.
