Northwest Indiana One Of Nation's Least Healthy Places For Women

Northwest Indiana improved its health profile, even if it was by only one spot.

In 2007, Self magazine named the Gary metropolitan area the unhealthiest place for women. This year, Gary, Ind. was replaced by Detroit in the magazine's survey of the 100 largest U.S. metropolitan areas, but it moved up only one spot, to No. 99.

Gary includes about 704,985 people in Lake, Porter, LaPorte and Newton counties.
