Georgia Sen. Saxby Chambliss, fresh off his victory in a runoff election against Democrat Jim Martin, says Sarah Palin gave him the boost he needed. "I can't overstate the impact she had down here," the Republican Senator said in an interview on Fox News Wednesday morning.

"We had John McCain and Mike Huckabee and Gov. Romney and Rudy Giuliani, but Sarah Palin came in on the last day, did a fly-around and, man, she was dynamite," Chambliss said. "We packed the houses everywhere we went. And it really did allow us to peak and get our base fired up."

"When she walks in a room, folks just explode," he added. And they really did pack the house everywhere we went. She's a dynamic lady, a great administrator, and I think she's got a great future in the Republican Party."

Chambliss was forced into a runoff when he failed to win a majority of the vote on November 4th. In Tuesday's runoff, he beat Martin by double-digits.

This is the story Newt Gingrich, Peggy Noonan and some others are trying to bury. Palin and her supporters are the majority of the GOP and they will no longer remain in the closet. Those who say the Obama victory has diminish this base are doing some wishful thinking. The religious, bigoted, semi-literate base of the GOP is growing, not declining. Will they lead or go back in the closet?

She packed the houses? The rally I saw had more empty seats than full seats?

That's interesting.

The GOP will do and say anything to make themselves look better.

Yuck.

Yeah, Georgia has issues. I used to date this girl from Georgia (18 years old) with three kids and no skills whatsoever. She was hot, but she and her family were so incredibly disfuctional it is surprising they were able to coexist withour accidentally killing each other with the guns laying around the house.

Don't mistake the illiterate backwoods types for the majority of GA residents. Palin went around the counties in the rural areas only. Some people in the rural areas do not live around a diverse group of people and they are undereducated, so they tend to stick with the tried and true bigots still left in the South. By no means does that describe the majority of people living here, if that were true the state would not have turned purple rather than stay bright red! We made a dent this time and in the future, the metro areas as long as the economy does not make that impossible as the educated move away for work, we can turn the state around fully. It is important to the country to finally stop the growth of dysfunctional bigots all across America, so learning that they are still out there is important. Thanks Saxby, you will indeed keep us on our toes.

"When she enters a room, folks just explode."

Is that a different kind of exploding than what my head wants to do when I hear her speak?

BS Chamberlin. Palin had nothing to do with it. The entrenched, fearful republicans living in Georgia who gave you the win on election day had something to do with it, not Palin. You're being used.

Yes, Senator Chambliss, you have a wonderful base.

Only Real Americans who love their country and believe in its racial purity and God-chosen heritage and destiny belong in your base.

Never mind the ignorance, bigotry, fear, and lies.

maybe she should go home for a few days and solve some of Alaska's problems--falling oil revenues, high drop-out rates, drug problems, etc.

It's an ironic contrast: with Obama, we have found someone who can bring out the best in human nature; and with Palin, someone who brings out the worst.

Palin certainly could not come to Atlanta wearing the same cloths she wore on the campaign trail so they didn't! Whites in the rural areas like her, naturally anyone who lacks education beyond community college thinks she is great for the most part here! However, there are many colleges here in the metro area and those kids ran the campaign for Obama here gaining much experience and they did a great job so look for more interesting turn of events here as Obama serves. Actually, it is not bad having Saxby back because that means that the Obama administration still has Repubs like him to blame for problems setting the country on the right track. If he and his cohorts try to start trouble they will be singled out now. They won't give him any breaks and they will silence him if they have too. Chambliss is part of the Bush's stupid people, so he probably won't last long anyway.

Isn't it interesting how a group will latch onto a phrase and beat it to death. "Fired up our base." That horse is beyond flogging, GOP. Time to find some new buzz already.

Base seems like an apt word for the likes of Chambliss and Palin supporters. They really are the basest base.
base 2 (bs)
adj. bas·er, bas·est
1.
a. Having or showing a contemptible, mean-spirited, or selfish lack of human decency. See Synonyms at mean2.
b. Devoid of high values or ethics: a base, degrading way of life.
c. Inferior in value or quality.
