Meet The Next Generation Of TV News Stars

Drawing up an unassailable list of the next generation of television news stars is a near-impossible and inherently suspect task, if only because the prescribed length of the list forces difficult choices.

It's also a rewarding task because it involves a lot of conversations with a lot of people whose business it is to know star power when they see it--in even its earliest forms--in the context of an increasingly daunting TV news landscape.

TelevisionWeek talked to network talent executives, agents and savvy viewers who are, first and foremost, news junkies. No one was in contention for the list without having been mentioned, unbidden, more than once, or without having provoked easy assent from the news junkies when mentioned as a contender.

I am not surprised that a 'RAG' like TVWeek that is fully vested in a media that cares little for diversity in its ranks having a list with NO African Americans on it. But I am disappointed in the supposedly 'progressive' Huffington Post for reprinting such an article and also following multiple post election journalism roundtables that don't even attempt to have diverse panels. In this election there were more Black journalist and pundits providing insight and analysis than in any election in the history of the US. I am sure there are several that are considered rising stars and could provide in depth analysis.

In the afterglow of what this country did in the past election these examples are a shameful and sad testimony to the work yet to be done.

We are left to assume it is EASIER to bring racial diversity to The White House and seats of power in Washington than it is to do the same to what is a thoroughly entrenched and disconnected mass media And possibly (aghast) the blogosphere as well.

If you go click the link to the website you'll see at least 4 African Americans on the list. But I do agree more needs to be done as far as racial diversity in MSM. Especially behind the camera.

No one voted these people "stars". That's title that has to be earned, not given out by some magazine PR flack.

They all look like losers to me. But they will have to earn that title too!!
