Every day that passes, I am thankful for having a low paying, but secure job. I have been through 19 months of unemployment, and feel for those who are out of work. My advice is don't lose faith in yourselves, keep a stiff upper lip, don't be too proud to collect unemployment, which you paid into, and don't hesitate to apply for food stamps. Survival is the main goal until you find work. Don't be expecting to make the same wages as you did before, and don't expect much when looking into another line of work, unless you have applicable skills.

On line job sites don't offer much, they expect you to take all the risks. Look in the newspaper want ads, find out if there are headhunters in your industry and contact them. Update your resumes, and be willing to relocate.

But above all, keep the faith.

Hard to relocate when you can't sell your home, but otherwise...

Best thing ever happened to me was finding an overseas job tax free after 8 months of unemployment. Never went back to the states since to live...........that was 1989.

Don't worry, Republicans. You'll feel better in less than 50 days when you can start blaming Barack Obama for the recession that you've been denying.

The "trickle down" has dried to less than a drip, and scores of mouths fall agape under the faucet like newborn birds awaiting regurgitating worms.

Why? Because we don't MAKE anything here anymore! This is the result of banking all our futures on a service economy. Our entire country has been living in a McMansion built with playing cards, and wind is picking up.

I LOVE how the right wing hose bags continue to equate our financial security to a pyramid. Hey geniuses, what happens if the bottom of the pyramid crumbles to dust? You're about to find out.

Someone should ask the coalition of Democrats and Republicans that Bill Clinton led to help get NAFTA passed back in the 90's, over the objection of so many who predicted just what we're seeing now, exactly how that was going to help America,

Global trade was not something that could be stalled. Tax benefits to companies who send jobs overseas, offshore accounts that prevent taxes from being claimed, CEOs making 400x their workers, an auto and oil industry working in tandem to keep us dependent on foreign oil...a LOT of those things could have been prevented. And you're right in that both dems and repubs have been shortsighted. However...

What would our financial situation look like if we had never gone into Iraq? What kind of shape would we be in if there hadn't been tax cuts provided during a time of war? How much more agile would we be if the last 8 years hadn't been spent trying to dismantle the very government these people were put in charge of ('small enough to drown it in a bathtub' was the quote; obese and incompetent enough to collapse under it's own weight was the reality)?

Oh it's just numbers - not humans or anything like that. Jobs are just a cerebral exercise in the minds of highly educated economists. Land should be set aside in warm climates of the US so the jobless and hopeless can camp-out and live off the land until the jobs come back from their visit to Mars.

I fear this is only the tip of the icberg. Stagnant wages and low paying service jobs have crippled the economy. No one has any money to spend on anything, which means companies can't move their merchandise, which means less production and layoffs...this leads to less money to spend, which means less production. It is a vicious cycle.

Do you remember Bush touting the service economy while everything in the manufacturing sector was being outsourced??

The rich people that don't pay their taxes own many, many properties and they need people to take care of these homes and mansions etc. Our children are going to school so they can take care of some rich persons stuff? I hope not..

Time for a creative and real change in how we think and do things.
Meanwhile, my heart goes out to those who are struggling and worried.
What a nightmare.

The last shoe to drop was OPEC's decision to cut production levels, resulting in higher oil prices.

The price of fuel at the local stations has already gone up 14 cents a gallon.

We are sooooooooo skrooed.
