Well, there you have it. Several days later and there is only one comment?
This post was made 2 or 3 days ago here and the video is quite compelling, if you bother to watch it. The history and modern story of Afghanistan is incredibly compelling and we Americans just can't be bothered. We (and by "we" I mean those people who voted for GW, of which I am NOT one) supported an invasion of Iraq and put all of our fervor into deposing a dictator who had nothing to do with the attacks on 9/11. We went in and did a perfunctory job of ousting the Taliban, which has gone about the same way as our dealings with Afghan issues in the 1970s/80s and that led to the Taliban taking control. Oh yes, we've had a sordid history with Afghanistan to say the least.
We need to get our priorities straight here and help settle the folk of Afghanistan or we are looking at more drastic problems originating from that region. We are there now and it is just shy of a clusterf*ck and we just don't seem to get it.
Well, please wake up, America and don't fall back on arguments about our priorities now having to be our own economy. We went into Afghanistan and did a half @ssed job and we need to finish it up with some dignity.

You are right. Thank you.

I know military action is not the ONLY answer, but it has to be - in my opinion - at least PART of the answer until the Taliban is finally marginalized enough to let the people be. I know of no young Afghan who loved the Taliban - their rules about kite flying, no music, etc were hard on them. Women did not suport the Taliban. Who did? The older males. So now we are to negotiate with them, or leave them to perpetuate the destruction on their homeland again? Remember the video from RAWA, which showed the assassination in the stadium of a young woman? Read "The Sewing Circles of Herat" to get an idea of what the Taliban did to the average person.

Thanks for the suggestions, Steady. I will look into that. I am absolutely fascinated by the rich history of Afghanistan and would love to experience that that land and the people who live there can experience peace and tranquility.

And we're pumping 10 billion dollars a month into an illegal war in Iraq. Good call...
