Vito Fossella Seems To Be Mulling A Comeback
Back in May of 2008, five-term Representative from Staten Island Vito Fossella dropped out of his race for re-election amid a motherlode of crime and controversy. Now, Fossella has planned a big shindig for political supporters for December 14th that's billed as a "'thank-you' buffet brunch," but has many wondering if it's not the first step of a political comeback attempt. The Staten Island Advance has the story, featuring one unnamed Republican musing, "He's up to something."
Yeah. Woe betide thee when Vito Fossella gets up to something. Over the course of one night in May, Fossella got up to enough something to end several political careers. A night that began with Fossella getting tossed from DC's sceney Logan Tavern was followed with Fossella getting arrested for drunk driving, and ended a day later with the revelation that Fossella had been having an affair with the woman who bailed him out -- a woman with whom he had fathered a child out of wedlock.
Staten Island, however, might be forgiving. Fossella's political mentor, Guy Molinari, told the Advance that he was bullish on Fossella's chances. "Two years from now, he could be the best candidate we could put up...I wouldn't write him off. I thought he could have won if he'd stayed in the race this year."
He's not the only one who thinks Fossella still has something to offer Washington, DC! Back in July, two months after the scandals broke -- and with full awareness of them -- Capitol Hill newspaper The Hill named Fossella to its annual list of the Fifty Most Beautiful People On Capitol Hill. That's right! Apparently, Capitol Hill is that starved for beauty that it needed Fossella to round out their listicle. Did you know Vito Fossella shuns his openly gay sister? SO BEAUTIFUL.
