236: Chambliss Wins, Drudge Cracks Open A Case Of BOLD ITALICS
236.Com:
The Georgia senate runoff is over, and the humorously named Saxby Chambliss has defeated challenger Jim Martin by a margin of about 14 percentage points. With his victory, Saxby Chambliss - whose name makes us laugh every time way say it - has prevented senate Democrats from securing a 60-seat, filibuster-proof "supermajority." At best, Democrats will only be able to claim 59 seats should Al Franken win his own recount challenge in Minnesota.
Still, 2008 is going to go down in history as the year Republicans got pounded, right? Isn't this the election that proved to be a severe repudiation of the GOP and incontrovertible proof that America is maybe a little bluer than once thought? Not if you're Matt Drudge, it isn't. On his site this morning, Drudge crowed about Martin's loss, declaring in his SIGNATURE ALL CAPS UNDERLINED ITALIC FONT that Republicans have "struck back" with a victory in Georgia. ZOWIE!
