Bill Gates Open To Obama Administration Role

Microsoft founder Bill Gates, who is in Washington this week to press his foundation's education and global health agenda, said he is keeping an open mind about taking a role aiding the incoming Obama administration.

Asked in an interview yesterday with The Washington Post whether he would consider serving in the new administration, Gates left the door open.

"Certainly my full-time job is being chairman of the foundation," Gates said. "If there was some committee or pretty focused task where I could contribute, I'd be glad to consider that, and I hope that the things we've learned about education -- including the mistakes we've made -- I hope we do get a strong dialogue and I'm very optimistic we'll have that with these people."

It is with bemusement that I read some of the posts herein. Bill Gates - multi-billionaire and he arrived at his wealth with the use of his not inconsiderable intellect and shrewd business acumen. Bill will force all of our children to learn on nothing but Windows! There IS a conflict of interest here. I hope the man is kept far far away from our educational system.

There is a wide world of software development outside of Redmond, and Bill can't profit from it so I'm sure he'd lock our kids out of it.

I bet Steve Jobs and Richard Stallman would have some opinions about this as well.

Bill, You've done some great work with infectious diseases - but please, please keep your hands off education. Your charter schools are appalling. You've put milllions into them across the country and what they take in is droids and what they produce are droids. Minds don't run on math and science. The Gates charter schools where I live have NO art, NO music, NO physical activity, NO creative writing. Droids. Keep out of education.

Bill Gates is actually one of the more respectable rich figures that actually is more than just wealth. Plus Gates had to work to where he is now, just like Obama did. I say Obama should take up Gates on his offer to truly have a 21st Century campaign.
