NEW YORK — CBS' Grammy nominations special wasn't a breakaway hit with viewers Wednesday night, but it didn't play off-key.

The concert-and-announcements show attracted 7.1 million viewers, according to Nielsen Media Research. This meant a fourth-place position among programs that were separated by only a million.

NBC's "Life" led in the 9-10 p.m. EST slot with 8.1 million viewers, followed by the second half of the premiere of Fox's "Secret Millionaire" with 8.0 million. ABC's "Private Practice" was third with 7.8 million.

The prime-time special was a first for the Grammys, which typically have announced the nominations in the morning with brief TV coverage.

The Grammys will air Feb. 8 on CBS.

If Lil Wayne is nominated for "whatever of the year", it's a sad day for music.

Oh please this was just used to promote the LA Live!/Nokia Theater opening.
If that wasn't in conjunction with this then this probably would NOT have happened!

I guess i'm out of it but that Taylor Swift CANNOT SING!!!

Teas, you're not out of it, she really cannot sing. It was pretty horrendous. Now if only half as many would actually watch the Grammys themselves.

She can't? Didn't she just win an American Music Award for best new something in Country? Man.

I agree with you. I was shocked at how bad she was. I've heard about her but I don't think I've heard her sing before. She was sooooo off key. She wouldn't last on American Idol.

Now, Christina Aguilera can sing. She was great on Porgy but check her out doing "It's a Man's World" from the 2007 Grammy Awards.

And with Tony Bennett at the Emmy's.
