CNBC Puts "Big Idea With Donny Deutsch" On Hiatus

CNBC has put The Big Idea, adman Donny Deutsch's entrepreneur-encouragement show, on hiatus, reports TVNewser.

Officially, the show's not canceled, just on hold until a moment more favorable to its message -- the theory being that "Anyone can start a Fortune 500 company" isn't so credible in this economy. But the ratings haven't been so hot: The Big Idea is down year-over-year -- and this at a time when the network is generating record ratings -- and it scratches, or reaches fewer viewers than Nielsen can accurately measure, some 30 percent of the time in the prime demo of adults 25-to-54.

How did that show stay on the air? He was getting the lowest ratings of anyone on any of the cable news outfits since his show's inception. Literally, according to one report I read, he was getting less than 1,000 people an episode to tune in at times. I was wondering if maybe he had naked pictures of the GE/NBC leadership in compromising positions to be allowed to remain part of MSNBC.

This is a long overdue move and let's hope MSNBC uses the time slot more productively.

I liked the show back when it had mostly celebrity guests. Trump was good regular and Donny even scored a Gore interview. Then his show just became about entrepreneurs and now it puts me to sleep. It's the same trite crap everyday. ":Love what you do and you'll succeed" Ugh.

Where was his "big idea" for ratings?

It seems he wasn't doing to bad with his original format. He had many guest celebrities and the show was interesting to watch. What made him change from celebrities to entrepreneurs is anyone's guess but the show now became boring to watch and made very little connection with its audience. He has a very relaxed interviewing style and it was better suited for a celebrity guest type of program. There is always an audience for it. No big production like the Tonight Show etc...but it did seem to have its own niche.
