NBC News, Ad Sales Face Cuts

NBC News and NBC ad sales are the among the latest victims of NBC Universal's previously announced layoffs and cost reductions.

About 30 layoffs in the ad sales department began this week. Sources said more cuts had been made in the news division already and that more likely were to happen todayThursday. The cuts, which are worldwide, are being done in addition to buyouts, attrition, early retirement and jobs around the company not being filled. Offices affected included New York and Los Angeles. The notifications will finish early next week.

It wasn't immediately clear whether those cuts or buyouts would involve on-air or key behind-the-scenes people. The total number couldn't be immediately determined, though it was believed to be much smaller than previous job losses.

NBC News is trying to straddle the political fance - and that's a bad strategy. FOX News has their followers because they know when they turn on FOX they wiull get 100% Conservative Republican views, and they like this, it's self confirming and supportive. NBC is trying to keep the intensity up while at the same time, straddling the fence. Morning Joe could no more provide fair and balanced news than Carl Rove. Scarborough believes all things good revolve around the fact that Jesus approves of all things Republican and that's that! His counterparts are there like Alan Keys was there to show how smart Hannity was. NBC should just project themselves as the balance to FOX and let CNN be the news in the middle. Otherwise FOX has one side completely booked and MSNBC and CNN are fighting for the other half. It's all business.
