The Kutcher-Moore-Willis Christmas Plans

Buried in Liz Smiths' column today are the Christmas plans of the extended Ashton Kutcher, Demi Moore, Bruce Willis clan. The family just spent Thanksgiving together in France to celebrate daughter Scout's debut.

DYSFUNCTIONAL families function by their own rules, and one of the best is the arrangement of formerly wed Demi Moore and Bruce Willis. They will celebrate Christmas together with her husband, Ashton Kutcher, 30, and the good-looking girlfriend of Bruce - Emma Heming, 30.

"We had an unconventional Thanksgiving, and we will all be together for Christmas as well with our three daughters. I think the key with any past is that you recognize and hold on to what you loved and what you gained and you don't attach yourself to what you've lost," says Demi. She just opened a movie called "Flawless" in London.

If the Willis-Moore-Kutcher symbiosis seems dysfunctional, is does so from the rigid denials of contentious exes who willing give hundreds of thousands of dollars to lawyers to prove each are right.

I think unconventional is a far better term than dysfunctional. They may indeed be dysfunctional, but I don't think that we have the rigth to assume or judge that. From the appearance of it, they are quite functional in the face of what seems like it would automatically be dysfunctional.

In any event - I guess this is our irrational need as a society to label everything. These people are all filthy rich, so I am going to assume it is likely that they don't do a whole lot of things that they don't want to. They probably spend time together because they want to. Pretty cool for the kids that despite divorce, they get to spend time with both of their parents, at the same time.

I loved that comment. I really do. Had I not clicked on your favorite ikon already, I would have done so again. The only thing that I would like to add to your comment is that these people actually have some emotional intelligence. Without it, this could not have been possible--a win-win outcome. I don't envy these people's money and their fancy material things, which have no real meanings really, but I do envy their arrangement. Strickly for my son's sake, I wish that I could have had such an arrangement with my ex.

I met them in Vegas once. It's true of Bruce. Now, this was some 16 or more years ago, but she was an absolute jerk. Maybe some years have brought some wisdom, but I can't vouch for her.

Saw Bruce on Letterman the other night. Very sad. Was wearing Palin wig and galsses and then hyped his new movie, High School Musical 3. The clip was a complete piece on nonsense. Poor guy has fallen so far and I'm afraid adjusting to the divorce...a younger man with his wife....has cut his b**** off.

So now, a couple breaks up, remains friends, have an amicable relationship and are able to spend a holiday together with their new partners, and this is what you call DYSFUNCTIONAL?

You'd rather that they have a tense and strained relationship, throw all kinds of tantrums, make snide remarks about each other and their new partners in public and basically treat each other disdainfully?

That, to your way of thinking, would be non-dysfunctionala nd the aceptable form of behaviour? It would be such a better place if more erstwhile couples would behave this maturely.

Here, here! Wonderful for the daughters that their parents, step-father and the
other adults in their lives can be friends and behave like decent people towards one
another!

When you consider the options- this is the best for all concerned.
Divorce doesn't have to be hateful and can in fact be managed in a healthy and
kind way that allows the kids involved to be free of the guilt so many children have
to deal with. Being able to spend a holiday with BOTH of their parents rather than
being shipped off on alternating holidays is a wonderful gift that they have given
these kids. It shows a real love and commitment to their well-being.

I don't think the writer knows what the term "dysfunctional" means. I think she just meant extended or maybe non-traditional. Anyway, the more the merrier in my view. That's what the holidays are all about. Truth be told, I wish I had been invited.
