The star of ABC's "Ugly Betty" has agreed to help Hillary Clinton retire her campaign debt before a federal law prevents Barack Obama's choice for Secretary of State from being personally involved in raising funds.

Clinton's presidential campaign committee sent an e-mail to supporters on Thursday, inviting them to participate in a conversation with the former first lady in New York City on Monday, Dec. 15, which will feature special guest Bill Clinton and will be hosted by America Ferrera, the "Ugly Betty" star who first announced her support for Clinton in January 2008 and campaigned for her in Nevada and Pennsylvania. The purpose of the event, which is scheduled to take place at Manhattan Center Studios, is to help the former first lady retire her sizable campaign debt.

I'm sorry this makes no sense, why can't Hillary just pay the debt off....she's got the money.

Do you think the average rabid Hillary supporter that was upset with Mark Penn's role in the campaign will know that when they buy her new book, they are paying him? LOL

Betty has two Ts.

If you buy tickets to see a rock star, they could buy drugs, alcohol, whatever with your ticket money, making you an enabler. if you buy a ticket to see a movie, the movie star could go buy a seventh home in costa rica taking unfair advantage. if you buy a sweater you don't know if slave labor produced it. so why so uptight about paying off campaign debt? if you dislike clinton politics, fine. don't go to the event. if you think it's a good thing that we have democratic elections where candidates have to publicly prove themselves the best person for the job, then go listen to a former prez and future SOS for 50 bucks, and help pay off some debt. those horrible clintons also have raised millions for philanthropic purposes.

I can forgive but will never forget and will never trust this lady. She is competent to be SOS but the people she surrounds herself with are poison and a reason to be very careful about this woman. As to donation, over my dead body!

A word to Obama - be very careful!

Gee. I'm African American. Since I'm not a "hard working White American," I don't possibly see how I would have any extra money to help millionaire Hillary Clinton retire her debt.

I admired Clinton before the campaign. I was offended during the primary. I admired her after the primary. I am thrilled that she'll be Secretary of State. I think she's an incredible woman on many levels. However, as an African American, I don't give my hard-earned money (generated from hard work) to white people who call non-whites like me lazy. I draw the line there. If she apologized for that comment, I would be happy to donate.

I no longer have an issue with Hillary although I didn't like the way she campaigned in the primaries, I thought she conducted herself well after that. It doesn't matter to me whether it was for her personal ambition or because she genuinely supported Obama - she did what she could, and that's the main thing.

I'd be happy to give a small amount to help her retire her debt IF (and that's a big IF) it weren't for the fact that I'd be helping to pay - d o u c h e b a g s - like Mark Penn. Considering how he practically engineered her campaign's strategic demise and was the biggest sore loser after the primaries, his multi-million dollar salary is not proportionate to his worthless contributions. So hell no. I'm not sending money into his pockets.

I FULLY understand your reluctance to essentially put money in Penn's pocket.

This is the stance I've been taking, but thinking about it now, we might as well put money in the d o u c h e b a g's pockets and be done with it! Essentially pay him to just go away (you win some, you lose some). Not helping her will lead to a disastrous domino effect, eventually ending up on Barack's doorstep. Can the d o u c h e b a g take a pay cut?

Mark Penn should call it an even exchange.

He screwed her over now she should return the favor.

All Obama supporters, I am an Obama supporter, and voted for him, BUT I as that you PLEASE help this woman pay off her debt by donating even as little as $5.00 to help clear her debt.

You can probably write the $5.00 contribution off, when you file your taxes.

We are Democrats, all of us, so let us pull together like we did for Obama, and help Hillary pay off her campaign debt, so that she can be 100% focused on the country's many Foreign Policy issues, next month.

God Bless her but I'm not donating a dime. I'm in need of my own donations. Hillary Clinton has some very wealthy supporters, they should just go ahead and SUPPORT her.

I voted for Obama to help repair this country, not Hillary Clinton's debts (which were created in an effort to prevent Obama from becoming president in the first place).

Hillary doesn't get a dime. And with the economy worsening, I have less incentive to give her one.

I'm sorry but she ran up that debt trying to prevent him from being president even AFTER she had no mathematically possible route to the nomination, just her own sturbborn belief that he would not get the support of those "hard working white Americans" and as she famously told Bill Richardson, "he can't win Bill."

She didn't have to run up the debt in the first place and she can afford to pay it off herself. I do have an idea though, she doesn't have that much of a balance, how about Bob Johnson step in to clear her debt. He wanted her to win so bad he was willing to publicly insult Obama.

He can chip in and gather up everyone else who made those embarrasing, demeaning statements about Obama during the primary on her behalf. If they all pitched in $100 a piece that should clear things up in no time!

I am a life-long Democrat, but I will not give one penny to retire HRC's debt. She racked up most of that debt in the last weeks of her campaign in an effort to turn the tide in her favor. She tried to rip Obama apart, and I won't forgive her for it.

HRC is a thug. She wasn't going to win the election honestly, so she tried to steal it. Just because HRC has been nominated SoS does not mean I have changed my opinion of her. Where do you think McPalin got their talking points during the GE?

I never liked nor trusted the woman, even when she was first lady. Let her declare bankruptcy.

$7,500,000 divided by 18,000,000 comes out to less than 42 cents per "crack in the ceiling."
