Facebook: Obama Speechwriter Parties With Clinton Cutout

The Washington Post reports that Jon Favreau, chief speechwriter for President-elect Barack Obama, was caught partying with a cardboard cutout of Hillary Clinton in some interesting Facebook photos.

Asked about the photos, Favreau, who was recently appointed director of speechwriting for the White House, declined comment. A transition official said that Favreau had "reached out to Senator Clinton to offer an apology."

The Post adds that Clinton's team is taking the matter lightly. "Senator Clinton is pleased to learn of Jon's obvious interest in the State Department, and is currently reviewing his application," said Clinton senior adviser Philippe Reines.

I am/was an obama supporter but the unexamined sexism happening in the Obama camp is making me more and more mad every day. These pictures are atrocious. They are pictures of sexual harassment. I am a teacher at a large university and so de facto have somewhat of a public presence. If I saw pictures like this of me on the web I would be outraged. Sexual harrasment is something women DEAL with every day. If you think it is funny then you need to look seriously at the violence done to women's bodies.

Would you think it was funny if you saw a Clinton supporter joking with a noose around the neck of an Obama cutout? Would we be asking Obama to have a sense of humor about that? I can't believe the comments about the real news being her sense of humor. Disgusting.

I really hope I don't come to regret my support. The people posting on this blog don't make it any better. It's called "basic respect." Favreau owes an apology to the public, not just to Clinton.

Wtf. People are soo freaking sensitive today. Nobody takes context to mean anything and just goes by the blind rule of the P.C. police. As for the people asking, how would we feel if it were Michelle Obama? It would be lewd, and insulting. But it wouldn't be sexist, just offensive.

Maybe I am doing a little bit too much armchair psychology here. But if the woman were young, and attractive and trying to be taken seriously and these guys did something like this I would say that was using her sexuality to show her as weak or to insult her. But most people don't even consider Hillary a woman. The same way most people did not see Indira Gandhi (former Prime Minister of India) or Margaret Thacher as a woman.

Same thing as if a really old and unattractive man they like were elected to office. And hot girls take pictures hugging his cut out or something.

Sexual harrasment is used to intimidate. All women are vulnerable to sexual harrasment. This says something to women who aspire to Hillary's position, that the cost of their hopes is to suffer this kind of degradement. Step back take a break. Young people doing stupid things. But, I do think that the supporters for O such as myself need to be mindful that people will use whatever they can to paint a negative light on him. So it is a good idea if you are representing him in any tangible way ( GOTV, speech writing, attending the inuguration etc) be mindful that people are watching.
