New Bush Neighbor In Dallas: I'm Afraid "The Whole Neighborhood Is Going To Be A Target"

Bush Neighbor

As was reported this week, George Bush has bought a new house in a wealthy part of Dallas, called Preston Hollow, to live in after he leaves office. Preston Hollow homeowners are used to having well-known neighbors; the area is already home to Dallas Mavericks' owner Marc Cuban and former presidential candidate Ross Perot. And while many of the Bushes' new neighbors seem perfectly happy and excited to welcome the former first couple, a few of them, reports the Wall Street Journal, have some significant reservations:

The impending presence of a former President is ratcheting up security fears. "I am afraid with all the negative press the president has been getting, the whole neighborhood is going to be a target," said a woman, who wouldn't give her name. She carried her King Charles spaniel Friday past the Bushes' new abode.

But Raw Story reports that the area had some issues long before Bush made it his new home.

Until 2000, the neighborhood association's covenant said only white people were allowed to live there, though an exception was made for servants. The document, enacted in 1956, reads:

"Said property shall be used and occupied by white persons only except these covenants shall not prevent occupancy by domestic servants of different race or nationality in the employ of a tenant."

Even repubs bleed in these times. Texas was always larger than life. I visited Dallas three years ago, it made me feel like I lived in poverty. I don't leave lights on 24/7 so you can see my sparkles. We don't tare down real nice homes to make one so big it barely fits so its bigger than the neighbors.

Sounds like a neighborhood right out of the dark ages. I wonder why anyone would even want to live there.

As a true blue Democrat who was born and raised in Preston Hollow, I beg to differ. It's a beautiful part of Dallas with big trees and lovely homes. I was never aware of such a covenant...and I've bought and sold several houses there...and I'm sure most others in the area are unaware of that covenant, which is left over from the Jim Crow days. W and Laura lived in Preston Hollow before he became Gov. of TX, and his daughters attended public school at Preston Hollow Elementary. I live in CA now, but know from Dallas friends that a lot of people are NOT happy that the Bushes are moving back.

My goodness, even his real estate agents employ "The Southern Strategy". Now that's commitment!

I wouldn't want to be the Bush's local postman who'll have to deliver all that yucky mail after it's been checked by wet-nosed dog-sniffers and soaked in bathtubs at the local sorting facility. The price of celebrity, Bush-style. The housewarming party involving Cheney and Rove can't be too far away. At the end of it, Bush will probably call an immediate press conference to announce that the report saying there were no WMD's was mistakenly put in his bottom right hand door, underneath his baseball glove and right next to his memo calling for tighter regulations for lending institutions.

Dubya may be in for an unpleasant surprise once he returns to Dallas, in spite of his plans to build his library & neocon think-tank at SMU. In 2004, Bush/Cheney won Dallas County by less than one-half of one percent. In 2006, the Dallas County Democratic Party swept the county and won every countywide office it ran a candidate in, and has been decidedly BLUE ever since. On Nov. 4, 2008, Obama/Biden took Dallas County by 57%. Sorry, Dubya, not your daddy's Dallas any more. He may find it's not as "friendly" to him & his ilk as he might believe in that Dubya yes-man bubble he's been cocooning in for the last 8 years. Especially after his 10-year limit on post-presidential Secret Service protection runs out and he has to move about within Dallas without the portable cocoon of a large entourage of men in black, and perhaps encounter "real" people around him. He's moving back into a BLUE Big D that has been rejecting him for a long time now. On the other hand, Midland would welcome him with open arms, I'm sure.

Once a rotten Bush is planted in the neigborhood, it could infect the rest of the place. First, one Bush is planted, and then another Bush is brought in, and then another, eventually the entire place is infected with Bushes. Then it is time to move!!!!!

Not much has changed in Texas. How many nukes would it take to reduce our Union by one state? Lets wait until Late January.

Didn't you read the article....

IT SAID THAT ARTICLE WAS IN EFFECT FROM 1956 UNTIL 2000.

So stop your worrying and insulting because you sound worse than the woman who
complained about the neighborhood.

The way whiners and critics sound with their comments, I sure wouldn't want any
one of them to be my neighbor.
They sound pretty evil to me.

The fact that the article was in effect AT ALL is disgusting.

That it was left in place until the turn of the millennium ... you think that's okay? You think it's GOOD that this kind of discrimination was only abolished 8 short years ago? I won't even bother trying to explain what's wrong with that notion.

Everyone who moved there and did nothing to change it ... guess their karma's come due.

I'll bet Crawford is breathing a sigh of relief... free at last!

Wait...am I reading this right? Are you for serious?

Moving on...
I find it interesting that the document was enacted in 1956, two years after school segregation was ruled unconstitutional in 1954. Strange to see the remaining bits of the civil rights battle of our grandparents' generation. I'm guessing our grandchildren will read about the passing of Proposition 8 and feel the same way.

if by changing for the better you mean economic socialism and regulation of every part of our daily lives, then yes, obama will change this country for the "better". haha. Love it when change is used as a euphemism for promoting the ridiculous liberal agenda.

Can't we just sell Texas to Mexico? Maybe pay off some of Bush's contribution to our national debt?.

i was starting to feel sorry for Bush's new neighbors, but now after reading this. However, I'd like to be in one of those neighborhood associations meetings where Ross Perot gets out a few flip charts to graphically show how GW is more wrong than his father. Someone should do a movie or a tv show based on living in the same neighborhood as W and Perot.
