Miami Herald

New York Times:

The McClatchy Company, burdened by debt and a steep slide in newspaper advertising, wants to sell one of its most-prized properties, The Miami Herald, according to people briefed on the company's plans.

McClatchy, the nation's third-largest newspaper chain, has approached potential buyers for The Herald, said these people, who asked for anonymity because they were not authorized to discuss the issue. But they said they knew of no serious offers for the paper, reflecting the evaporation of major investors' interest in buying newspapers.

News flash: When the free press stopped being free, people could tell they were being manipulated, so they stopped reading it.

Want newspapers to be profitable again? Maybe start telling the truth.... Maybe include some "real" news, not what Britney Spears is doing, and not depicting what a football team does as "news".

I lived in Miami for 35 years.....moved to the Atlanta area two years ago.

I really miss The Herald. It was a good newspaper.

And it sure beats the heck out of the Atlanta Urinal and Constipation....oops...I mean the Atlanta Journal and Constitution.

Atlanta isn't even on the radar as a good newspaper town.

If you read the story, it's clear they took on took much debt buying Knight Ridder. And I agree that it's not a good paper, and has not been for many years. All they do is suck up to the crooks at City Hall. Miami is one of the most corrupt cities in America. There is huge Medicare fraud.

If this is one of McClatchy's most prized properties, then they're in really big trouble. This paper has been a rag for over twenty years. The Miami News was a vastly superior news paper.

The Herald is nothing but Neocon propaganda. The Miami News was a good paper they drove out of business years ago to obtain monopoly control of information in South Florida. I hope they sink like the Titanic.

The Miami Herald began changing with the new ownership of McClatchy in 2006.

Check out McClatchy DC Online for some of the BEST Iraq reporting to be found.
No neocons here.
Facts up front and in your face.

Hate to read about McClatchy having financial difficulties.
We need McClatchy. Period.

This is sad. Without newspapers how will we get real news? Cable? Talk radio? Yeah right.

You're right, because a lot of what is on here is print news. And local news would all but disappear on the internet. I love people who say a paper is too big an expense, and then they buy a two dollar bottle of water that they could get from the tap.

I haven't bought a newspaper in months...I buy two free papers that come out in NYC that are perfectly fine...read the papers online, listen and watch BBC...I see no need for spending a buck-fifty on the Times...that now gets you a gallon of gas.
