Let's all hope that the Rethugs do move to the right.

It will destroy what's left of their party.

Yes, it's true, I'm seeing this with my own eyes. The Republicans have moved so far to the right that even the middle seems left wing and they want to go more right wing. There should be at least 1200 in the USA who will still belong.

It's precisely because of people like Huckabee that the nation rebelled against GOP!

Saxy Chambliss was supposed to win the Senate seat in Georgia hands down. Instead he found himself in a runoff election. His victory proved that even seats in the south that were once considered "safe" and shoo ins for Republicans no longer are.

Huckabee is laying down a bet that Obama will vulnerable in 2012. He is hoping, and probably praying, that the economic problems Obama is inheriting are so bad that they will continue through the next four years and set the scene for a far right candidate.

This is essentially what happened to Carter and led to Reagan's election in 1980.

But if the economy does start to recover in the next year or two, and odds are that it will, Huckabee and the other far right wannabes like Palin and Jindal will be ignored.

Yep, Huckabee is praying that Obama's administration proves to be the Weimar prelude to the resurgence of the far right. Let's work to make sure he is as wrong about that as he is about everything else.

Yeah. Didn't they pray for rain on Obama during the DNC and instead Hurricane Gustav crashed their party?

Huckabee is about as bright as any of the rest who thinks that Chambliss won because of his conservative values. Chambliss won for two reasons. The first is because Georgia is still a very racist state and the would be damned before they would let another Obama supporting candidate win. Secondly, and maybe more true than the first is that Martin was not a strong candidate and only came close because he was on the same ticket as Obama on November 4th.
I went to vote for Martin in the runoff and all I saw were the same faces I saw on tv during the RNC. Even if Palin had not come Chambliss would have won. Therefore, she deserves no credit either.

I AGREE, MIKE HUCKABEE! Keep getting more conservative! Go all the way! Keep talk about a federal amendment to Gay Marriage as though it were just as important as jobs and health care! Keep talking about shrinking government to the size where you can drown it in a bathtub! The more you preach, the farther everyone will run!

That's right.

Keep moving out there and make sure you take all of your bible thumpers, anti-science, anti-intellectuals and supremacists with you. Go all the way, there is no need to try to be inclusive! After all, if the mushy centrist repubs aren't with you they are against you!

The GOP needs to get more conservative? What will they do - throw poor people in jail and outlaw people of color from voting? How much more conservative can the GOP get? Their international policy of militarty adventurism and domestic policies of no regulation and raping the environment have failed miserably. America is not ready for a new round of GOP failures. We are still a nation in recovery from this conservative administration.

Nightmare is the word. "... recovery from this conservative nightmare." He talks about the "mushy middle," but I think it is only his brain that is mushy.

My parents, grandparents, aunts and uncles -- HELL, nearly every Republican I know! -- is a part of the "mushy middle." I'm an independent liberal who knows MANY Republicans and would have to say that all but 2 or 3 of them are right-wingers. People like Huckabee and Palin live in an alternate universe. Memo to social conservatives: your wing of the Republican party is getting older and dying off. If you keep your stranglehold on the Republican party, you will continue to LOSE elections. In my immediate family alone, I know of at least 11 people who voted for Obama who had voted for GWB in 2000 AND 2004. But hey, if you're cool with handing the White House over to the Democrats for the foreseeable future, you just go right ahead . . .

None of the publicans are the sharpest tools in the shed. It will take them a couple of election cycles to realize people like huckafuckabee are why they lost in 2008.

If Huckabee thinks the only issues of importance to the American people are the same divisive social arguements the GOP has thrown around for the last twenty years, thank heaven he wasn't the nominee in '08'. It's obvious he has no grasp of economic or foreign policy. If he thinks the tired politics of division will jump start the republican brand his party better prepare for an eternity in the wilderness. Who marries who or the wisdom of Roe vs Wade is no longer relevant to most people struggling to keep a roof over their head and food on the table. Please tell me this isn't the best or brightest GOPer's have to offer. My advice to Huckabee is to stay in the pulpit and out of national politics. Everyone will be better off.
